Live Well for Kayak

About to begin constructing my first live well for my Pro angler kayak.

Although there is alot information that i have not been able to find on how to begin

For the base of it ill be using ur standard esky. is a full pump system needed? and if so how do i go about this. or can i get away with just simple aireation through a small battery powered air pump.

Battery air pumps are fine if you dont have to many fish in there or keep the fish in the tank for a long period of time. The advantage of using a water pump is that you will be continually refreshing with new water, however there can also be a disadvantage doing that in that you will be taking the water from near the surface which in the summer months can be warmer than the water the fish were living in.

I had an old set up with a cheap bilge pump a meter or so of poly tubing a few retic connetions and a 12v battery. I had the set up running through a clear red dot tub but a mate had the same set up on an esky. Have an out let tube coming out one side drop the bioge pump over the side/back with the hose pumping water in and the outlet pipe usually bigger than the inlet set at the prefered water height. If your gonna run an airator its best/safest to run two and just scoop in fresh water every now and then.

Maybe you could make up a mesh cage net and float it next to the yak and put your livies in there. You should be able to just drag it along behind you then. So you wouldn't need pumps or anything for it. I don't know how much harder that would make paddling though.

what is the intended purpose?, flow rite do a heap of fittings etc for live wells, your best bet is to use a esky if your on a budget, those cheap plastic tubs are not a good option, they get the water pretty warm and arent strong, or you could bite the bullet and buy a hobie livewell
