what line are you using, if its been on there a while it could have a heap of memory and cause it to stay coiled as it comes off the spool

Casting into the wind or overfilled. If you are fishing softies you may be winding on loose loops after you flick. Best bet is to run it out and make sure it is on under tension at the end of every trip. Even chuck a heavier sinker on and just peg it out with the wind to make sure it is back on tight.

I would think that the cause would be the line being too loose on the spool.

Either when you spooled it with the line, you didn't use enough tension putting it on...
or
you are using too lighter lures for the line that you are using... ie: light SPs

megalite have a rounded shoulder on the spool ,being a new reel made on the old school design for mono.keep it full lower down on the spool and keeping it tight all the time should fix most of the problem.
