Don't know about macks back home in Jurien.
But thousands over here in Townsville.. Just finished doing the Billfish Comp here in Townsville and the macks were a bloody pest..
4 day comp and just on the last day a lone we had a total of 72 either bite offs, hook ups, landings.. But no billfish on that day..
I've spent half my life fishing.. The other half I have wasted..

wet blanket
well sorry to put a dampner on this one but I have just spent the last couple of weeks fishing out of Kalbarri and surrounding areas. the water temp is between 20 and 21 degrees which is the standard winter temp up there. I have quite a few spots that genrally hold bait balls all year round and they were present particularly sardines but the only pelagic action was sambos and sharks lol. If there were any school size tuna or macks in the area they would be usually smashing these bait balls and even the birds werent to interested in the bait balls either, no cobia at any of my reliable spots either
just need to wait a few more months longer, off the trench may be a different story but out of my league

Same here
The water temp out off the islands is cold compared to recent years and catches on the pro boats have dropped well down from average.
One of the macky pros spent more time than ever before and only got 2/3 of his quota.
