The licence fees are a piss take, they are menat to be for the management and sustainabillity of our resource. Big fat fail for that now it's got to this.
"Will our licence fees change? There will be no changes to recreational fishing licence fees. A Recreational Boat Fishing Licence is required to conduct a number of Statewide boat-based fishing activities and is not limited to fishing for demersal scalefish in the West Coast Bioregion. There are also opportunities to target other species during the demersal scalefish effort closure."
Hey BK your good with stats and numbers how about comparing our lic fees to the rest of this great nation of ours so the we need more license brigade and the uniformed can see how ripped off we are in WA home of the shortest fishing season in the world amongst over national records .
Much better deal in other states, with Qld and NT no charge i think. Modest NSW genral rec licence for various types of fishing @ $35/year and similar in Vic, where a licence covering all forms of recreational fishing in Victoria costs $36.10, yet here we get
You forgot the netting lic so probably $290 and you need one to use a cast net to catch bait tell that to someone from any other states and they will think your pulling the piss.
You forgot the netting lic so probably $290 and you need one to use a cast net to catch bait tell that to someone from any other states and they will think your pulling the piss.
Good point, can leave the release weight at home now... I mean from Feb 1... wait April 1... are these new rules an April fools day joke in disguise ;)
We can still fish from the boat all year round so they sure as shit won't reduce the fees. We simply won't be fishing as much because we can't target certain species.
What gives me the shits is that you can go and catch snapper from the moles and shore all year round and not pay for a fishing license. Discrimination --- just because you have a boat and pay a registration boat and trailer you have to pay to fish as well. Licenses all round. And start looking at all the bastards on the groynes and jetties filling their buckets with undersize and over the limit fish. If its good enough for boaties to be charged then shore fishers should be charged as well. F%^$#K em
Shouldn't be bagging the shore based fisherman for doing what should be a basic right but questioning why we are paying for the same rights why have we .multiple fisheries license when other states don't why do the eastern states with such small coast lines and much bigger populations not have these draconian rules forced onto them?
Maybe we should all just boycott the license system next year and show fisheries not to bite the hand that feeds them. I feel sorry for any fisheries officers now that are going to wear the brunt of this stupidity first hand. No one in their rite mind will want to go out and volunteer their time getting abused. So if there is no officers willing to work enforcing the new rules who will be there to police us?
50 percent reduction. Lol . Never happen . I would expect increase in fees to manage unjustified new rules and regs . I can see influx of new people working for government . Who do not know what fish is what . Time will tell . Fun times ahead .
ban and the shool holidays seems to coincide ,surely cant be to appise -/ vote buying, before boat could take home 2 legal size dhuis now can take home 4 poss. all undersize ? . guess we will just have to go with the science , but cant help to think that we are being treated like mushrooms .
I was always under the impression that the RBL was for managing the resource and a fair chunk was for ramps, launch facilities and cleaning benches ect.But it's a cash grab imo!
Know what you mean mate, lived in derby town for a year.We got a new ramp and new jetty 5 odd years ago in walpole but still a shitty little grave car park.I don't mind though keeps a few away
Victoria
No fee for under 18 or over 70
3-day licence $10
28-day licence $21.85
1-year licence $38.40 ($2.30 saving when bought online)
3-year licence $103.95 ($5.50 saving when bought online)
NSW
No fee for under 18 or those with a current Pensioner Concession Card
$7 for three days
$14 for one month
$35 for one year
$85 for three years
QLD
No Fees
That's not a mistake I couldn't find anything online so rang 132523 and spoke to the QLD Dept of Agriculture & Fishing
This issue has fired me up.
Here's Tasmania's fees
There is no fee for general fishing be it from a boat or shore based but there are fees for
Crayfish
Abalone
Scallop
Net Fishing
Set Line Fishing
Standard licence is $57.75 for the 1st licence then plus $8.25 for each additional licence type
Concession Licence is $33 for the 1st licence then plus $8.25 for each additional licence type
Yeah its madness not only do we have the tightest fishing restrictions in Australia but also the most expensive all while we have the biggest coastline and smallest population per kilometer of coastline. Definitely getting the shit end of the stick in good old wa don't expect any help from our peak body rec fish as that falls under the don't bight the hand that feeds deal
Just wondering if it will be legal to travel by boat to some land, fish from shore there and catch demersals, then load the catch into the boat and steam home?
I'm with reefsta on this one , quite easy to stop of at a beach and catch your demersals . Logged on your gps track so up to fisheries to prove otherwise . So many poor uninformed decisions in these new rules , unbelievable what politics can do !
Can't use a boat to access marron spots apart from a section of the Donnely where it was trialled, not sure if it's still permitted or not.As for the inspectors trying to prove you wrong?? I think otherwise, you will be trying to prove your innocence
Emailed Fisheries today about land-based from an island and also kayak etc and they replied withing an hour, as follows;
"From 1 February 2023, Recreational demersal closures in the West Coast Bioregion apply to all recreational fishers except charter and recreational shore-based line fishers. Spearfishing or fishing from a kayak or similar vessel is not permitted during the demersal scalefish closures.
Targeted spawning closures for pink snapper and baldchin groper apply to all fishers, including recreational (including shore based), commercial, and charter fishers.
During the closed season, you cannot be in possession of demersal scalefish on a boat in the waters of the West Coast Bioregion. This means that fish caught via land-based line fishing on an island during the demersal scalefish closure cannot be transported via boat back to mainland. Fish must be consumed on the island."
So it is strictly land-based only, no use of any type of boat as part of the outing.
It will probably be a blanket ban having demersals on your boat when out of season unless you have some sort of consignment note like you would receive being on a charter maybe. Similar to takeing marron from private property out of season
I'm considering buying a pot to take up to Jurien for the week. So looking into it, I can buy my son a licence and as long as he's on board and the floats are marked with his ID etc etc then I'll get away with only paying $25 for the week and keeping 8 per day?

no changes to License fees
From the FAQ page relating to the changes;
www.fish.wa.gov.au/Documents/recreational_fishing/FAQ_WCDSR_CURRENT_061222.pdf
"Will our licence fees change?

I'm pretty sure you just nailed what I would find out after hours of research.
From my current understanding, WA fishers are being whipped hard compared to other parts of Australia, both in fees and restrictions.

cant help but
question ! who was the bright spark that originqally suggested to gov. for the use of the release weight on demersal.
when did the powers that be realised that the mortality rate was quiet high.
why has it taken so long to change that law , or could it be that they totally F/UP and were too embarrased to back flip .
are these the same people that are now supplying expert data to mc gowan - punch .
like its been intimated a review will eventually come within 12 months , and this is just the start of the ultimate demersal closure .

Land Based / Boat
If you need a boat to get there, it's classed as fishing from a boat.
And still a rort.
Cheers,

Given you don't need a RBL to fish off a kayak or rowboat, maybe they are still and option just like land-based?
