Bronzey

Not mine but saw a pic on Facbook today of a nice bronzey caught of white hills beach early this-morning, ballooning on the easterly.

Went down to trigg last week

Wed, 2013-10-23 14:11

Went down to trigg last week and slid a herring just behind the breakers, half an hour later picked up a baby bronzie, put him back and I went home happy. Good sign to see the little ones around this early I reckon.

Tried the week before that for just a wobbie so a good start so far. Gonna try next couple of nights since I have some time off, got some nice bonito for bigger baits so heres hoping the luck continues.

Thinking a wilbinga trip Thursday night of this week if anyone else is heading out?

weed

Wed, 2013-10-23 15:01

hope it changes but I was up at wilbinga on friday and the weed was very bad, I had a look around brighton on saturday and with the rough water there was heaps of weed in the water column there too.  Hope it clears for you but along with the wind this time of year can be tough fishing.

Belly reported back on another thread that S bend was pretty clear so may be worth a look up that way, though I have spent many a night fishing there and have never even see a shark caught on that stretch, cervantes is usually reliable and thata Assasin landbased group got a nice sandbar up there a couple of weeks ago

Thanks mate, yea I did think the weed might be an issue. Was hoping the easterlies today might have cleared things up a bit but as you said further north may be a safer bet!

Easterlies

Wed, 2013-10-23 19:49

Weed has cleared from most of the NOR metro beaches now (well at least from Floreat through to North of scabs) with the exception of an isolated swamp at Trigg point. Dolphins were out tonight just south of Trigg rounding up some small schools so there are bait fish around for the larger species. With the wind looking good over the next few days a long cast or a balloon will easily get you out far enough I would expect.

Had baloons out from sunrise

Fri, 2013-10-25 07:21

Had baloons out from sunrise for a few hours yesterday morning between White Hills and Preston. Live and dead baits untouched. Heaps of weed on the beach but the water was clear. Not a lot of activity with herring or tailor so maybe once that picks up... Still beat the crap out of work!

Torium 30 on a penn prevail and a tyrnos 50 on a Oceamaster

Can't understand why people set their pots so close to shore baits were only about 200m out, hoping I can get a kayak this summer so I dont have to wait for easterlies and can remove any offending objects in the area

Fri, 2013-10-25 19:48

Out Thursday with a couple of youngsters from work for a very short sesh. Had a couple of fillets out on one rod off Brighton Rd and mulies on other. A couple oif PJ's landed just after dark a couple of nice little runs and shakes which I left to the two guys I was with and the they were lost - I would guess at tailor given the small headshakes. Then a little bit of meddling and a big run resulting in a hefty eagle ray. All fish on mulies, herring fillets left untouched throughout. Easterlies helpful for casting and it was useful to clear the banks. All fish taken from 70-120m out and within 30 mins of 8pm. Guy gas ballooning about 100m south of us but didnt see anything come out.

i'll be trying properly first

Fri, 2013-10-25 23:53

i'll be trying properly first time on sunday NOR, fingers crossed. Mate of mine knows professional fisherman who nets yaka's, scalies etc. He went to one of his spots close to trigg not to far off the beach an netted a massive bait school an had shitloads of small sharks in the net that were obviously released so im guessing they are around? bronzie landed the other day at woodies an also one further south today. So reports are starting to come in

School sharks

Sat, 2013-10-26 06:29

There are always school sharks a couple of 100 metres off trigg and Scarborough most of the year round.  I used to row off there and nearly always saw them.  About 1m long good eating size for us and larger sharks

had exactly the same thing happen last night as well, my bet was a little bronzie too small for the bait/hook. I left the bait another hour in case something came back past but no action

Sat night

Tue, 2013-11-05 21:50

Sat , night, one of my workers got a 2.5m Tiger up to the rocks at the end of Hillaries south wall. Gave him a good fight and looking too big to keep he cut it loose.

We might see a few more up and down the coast this summer.  He hooked it on a combination of mullet and squid on the bottom at the turn of low tide .

Landed a small black tip this week and had another nice little run which failed to hook up shortly after. Managed to recycle the same bait every time. Both in the space of 30 mins south of Brighton. little fella went about 1m.
