Large Kayaks
Submitted by Leemo on Mon, 2012-06-18 19:09
G'day guys. I'm in the market for a kayak to suit myself....... for those who don't know me, im a huge bloke haha. It needs to be wide enough to fit my fat ass comfortably for a couple of hours at a time, and stable enough to rock around a bit. I don't want to be spending a fortune, just after something for minimal cost. It also needs to have a rod holder/s and a bit of storage space.
Any suggestions?
Cheers, Liam.

I dont really want to spend
I dont really want to spend more than $400 to be honest. I might stretch it a bit, if i find something really nice. I fully realise Im not gonna get much for under 400, just want something for Egi, bream and some mulloway fishing.

You could probably pick up a malibu X factor 2nd hand pretty cheaply. I'm 80 kg and find it a nice kayak to paddle, but I know of people nearly twice my weight who have used them without any problems.

Probably going to be a bit cheaper and easier to get on the roofracks then the original Mirage Pro Angler 14

Just gad a look at the Coosa.
Just gad a look at the Coosa. Nice Kayak alright!!!! Not too bad a price at $1500 new. Less than half that of a Hobie Pro Angler 12 or 14. And only a bit more than a Hobie Outback but i reckon alot more versatile for fishing(minus the mirage drive). Could use the saved money to deck it out with other goodies :) Also cool that it has a payload of 170kg, and you can stand!!!!

I just bought one
I bought a lifleline 2.5 seater from bcf.
Used it squidding for the first time today. 1 x 98kg bloke and 1 x 90 kg bloke, plus bits of gear etc.
Paddled around solo for a while and found it easy to get going and handle. i think the 2.5 seater may be handy for us. If solo, you can sit in the middle seat for better c of g and and gives plenty of storage.
3 x rod holders, paddle clips to secure whilst gearing up, 3 x drink holders.
Heaps of storage inside the arse end, access is via an inspections hatch and netting up front to hold some more gear.
very stable, tri hull.
we bought some nice padded seats for $100 each and would highly recommend them.
all up with the kayak, paddles, seats, leashes, couple of dry bags, we paid $900.00
have a look on their website, should be on there, if not i'll get a pic and upload it.
