So I was out Saturday with a mate. I used 3 different types of bait - squid, prawns and sandworms. I tried 4 different hook sizes on 2 different types of rig. I fished 30 spots from 5 meters to 35 meters between here and the back of rotto. I caught about about 50 sand whiting, 10 herring, 2 garfish, a couple of cod and sh%tloads of wrasse. I've caught thousands of fish, as a pro and amateur, in every bloody state of this great country - but I've never caught a KGW!!!!!
Nice catch though Johnf

Well, that makes me feel a little better
My situation is similar to yourself (not as many fish caught overall though..)....
I locate & drift over the sand patches, or I anchor up and berley (pellets and tuna oil mix)
..and all I seem to catch are sand whiting (and not all the time), lots of butter fish....and NO KG...they're very elusive species for me
but always good to see someone get a bag of them

Do you think you're trying hard enough Shero? Haha! They are elusive but I've found them in the sound (not huge through) if you can get between the blowies and lots of spots around Rottnest and Garden Island. Don't have any reliable grounds I can point you towards as mine has just been prospecting near the islands.
Good luck though and nice bag JohnF!

I got a KG the first day I got my first boat in Perth, and not another one for 5 fucking years.....despite trying bloody hard.
We now have a couple of reliable KG spots but man, did I have to earn them!

Take the Mrs out
I just take the wife out and tell her what im targetting, then at least she catches them...
It's a team effort, honest.
Nice catch though! i'll be putting some more effort in to finding them before the ban is over for sure.
