Kayaking questions
Submitted by Fisherman Mikey on Fri, 2012-02-17 21:07
Hi,
i recently got in possesion of a escape kayak, it has a rod holder at the back and i was wondering whether or not i would be able to use it around palm beach. Would the kayak be able to handle it? Also, should i troll or should i be using bait and could i also try squidding? This is my first ever kayak and i really want to test it out :)
Thanks,
Fisherman Mikey.
P.S this is what my kayak looks like, http://www.escapekayaks.com/

Palm beach is a great spot as
Palm beach is a great spot as it remains calm when the wind is howling southerly as it is a north facing beach. You can try for whiting and flathead in the shallows (between the first weed bank and shore) squid over the weed bank, and trolling a small twisty or 3inch plastic on the back edge of the weed can get you tailor, herring and snook. The back edge is less than 100m out from shore, I usually stop there on the jetski for a bit of a fish on the way back to the boat ramp.
Hope that helps and be sure to let us know how you go

Yeah mate should be fine for
Yeah mate should be fine for a paddle around palm beach, head along the edge of the weed where it drops off a little deeper and throw some squid jigs around I recon.
As with any type of "boating" just check the weather as it wouldn't be too fun if the wind was up with some big chop coming in there. Palm beach is great with a southerly wind, pretty calm there, love to take my kids down there.

mike i have had an escape
mike i have had an escape kayak for quiet somewhile now lucky for me one of my good mates uncle owns that business. Those kayaks are great for how much you pay for them i have used it even when the waves are white capping and the winds are howling. I mainly use it for kayaking out bigger baits so you should not have a problem at palm beach.
Just a heads up might be worth getting a lesh for your paddle makes it alot easier and a seat if you dont already have one
Good things come to those who bait
