We have some keen fishos up that way

that may be able to help fishcrazy.
My experiences are quite old, but he may want to try thowing some lures off the rocks near Hearson's Cove. Tell him he must watch the tides as they move in very fast and it can be hairy.
I used to have a bit of success fishing on the beach near the main oval in Dampier in the evenings. Live baits or pilchards work well there.

one rod hey, bring a 10-20LB

one rod hey, bring a 10-20LB spin combo if possible. A few good landbased spots off the burrup and again down the causeway near point samson for jacks and bluenose salmon this time of year.
A few small poppers to 60mm for baby GT's and queenies off the flats at the cause way at low tide is always fun. 20-40g twisties for salmon at the same spot, again on the outgoing tide off the flats.
Soft plastics at cowrie cove(burrup) on the nickol bay side is fun for baby GT's and the odd stoinker.

Yeah Brad has probably summed up the best options. This time of year isn't the best for landbased fishing.
