kalbarri landbased fishing report

So been managing to get out a little bit and do some landbased fishing. There has been some good tailor starting to move in down the cliffs from pot alley to eagle gorge. When swell permits you can get down to the ledges and get into them. Wittacarra has been good for tailor as well just before sunrise and on dusk. Been some good bronzies being hooked as well in the early mornings if your into that type of fishing! The river has been going off with really good numbers of bream being caught from the refuel jetty all the way up river. Some decent size Javlin fish being caught up river as well. Mullaway are starting to make a bit more of an appearance off the beaches from chinamans and up the coast. Tailor off frustrations are in pesky numbers on dusk through to night. Crabs have been pretty quiet but hopefully will fire up as this moon comes on to full shortly. With the dredge in town now pumping the fish are starting to get fiesty. There are still really good numbers of yellowfin whiting in the river as well up to and over 30cm. Been an amazing year for whiting on the flats here in ankle deep water but they can be found in numbers up river past castle rock on the flats as well. Hope this helps.

well

well the other day up at the sandpatch no swell crystal clear water and you could see the tailor on the surface like baitfish! you have to remember that tailor are a migrating fish and will travel up and down the coast. they seem to be spawning most of the year now and when that happens they are everywhere. Dont go to whits too much as it get way too crowded and i hate crowds!

good rig. pulled up bout half mile south of nobbys. tailor were pests all night non stop mate! there was mullas around, mate got a soapy but as the same as up here. the mullas would pick up the bait play with it then as soon as they drop it the peskies would come in and nail it! Got a good size stretch limmo tailor bout 70+.  Nice shovel nose next morning that kept me entertained for a bit. Only cpl local crew stretched out the whole way so heaps of room. Lovee the place but gona love the north of town even better doing tour hehe!

sounds ok, when there is heaps of those choppers around at least the good fresh bait supply is healthy.  I caught a whopper shovel nose down there last year was 2.5m long big white spot.  Thought it was a trophy mulloway initially lol took a bit of getting in.  No whalers around? no sea weed?

mulla

Sat, 2013-11-23 18:11

thatd def be a mulla callum. there are bull sharks in the river but if the hooks spat then def a mulla! you get them 10+ ks up river so they are there. these fish were probably finglings that made their way up there and have stayed there.
