Kalbarri access on North of river side?
Submitted by Versus on Sun, 2012-05-13 21:18
Gday all, heading to Kalbarri at the end of July (just after school holidays), gona be camping on Murchison Station as close to the mouth as possible.
Just wondering how accessable the beach (fishing) is running north from the mouth? hard to tell just looking at google maps. Also if anyone has camped there before, is there much vehicle access further up?
any tips or advice much appreciated, might hire a boat for a day but generally gona be landbased. Cheers!

Lots of guys
fish over there. Most either use a dingy/kayak to get across the river the walk but there are quite a few Kalbarri locals who have 4 wheelers to access the beaches up to 5kms+ so there are plenty of options.
I've never heard of vehicle access but you never know?

I've only been to kalbarri
I've only been to kalbarri once and I don't think there is any vehicle access due to the gorge that runs through there. I know that the murchison boat hire will drop you over the other side and then pick you up again for only $5. Only downside there is they open at 8am and close at 5pm, losing valuable fishing time, but better than nothing I guess.. But I don't see any reason you couldn't do an overnighter..

My oldman and i usually hire
My oldman and i usually hire a tinny to get across the Murchison then walk to frustration, quite a decent walk especially with all your gear.... fishing is awsome when its on, expect big Mullowway, tailor and sharks.

There's no vehicle access
There's no vehicle access unless on the other side unless you can get a four wheeler across. You just have to find a nice area to fish, the difficulty of access means the fishing there can be awesome.

G'day VersusIf you're camping
G'day Versus
If you're camping on the station then you will have access to the coast. There is a crossing next to the homestead that gets you accross the river and then down to the coast. Just speak to Callum about it and I'm sure he will point you in the right direction. You can drive ( 4wd only ) for miles along the coast. The cliffs dont start for the best part of 20 - 30 kms from the mouth. Lots of beach/rocky sort of areas to fish. The tracks run fairly close to the beach if not on it but be careful, it gets fucking soft. And it will cost you dearly to be retrieved - and copius amounts of anal lube will be your only friend. So be careful. Enjoy.

Cheers Mick,yeh have camped
Cheers Mick,
yeh have camped there once before but only went about halfway down the river (between the station to the mouth), intending to camp right near the mouth on the river side, so opposite town almost, and either walk or drive over, will figure that out when we get there i guess.
Cheers to evryone else for the replies also and, not meaning to sound rude here, but has no1 else camped on murchison house station before? it starts just a few K's back form town and covers the whole North of river side up to the rabbit proof fence (i think).
