Gee thats a deep shot.
I presume the marks were a fish aggeration? I think I have the same Lorance unit, not sure I will get to post a 450m shot though - too far out for me.

I doubt they are fish
I doubt they are fish marking. Judging by the scale some of the marks are well over 50m high. Still a good read at that depth for a 600W tranny.

Not sure what beam angle it
Not sure what beam angle it is, but if its the 35 degree angle 50 khz one, that is looking at a patch of ground down there of diameter 284m. You could be trying to drop baits on contacts that are actually 140 m away!. Suppose if the boat is pitching around a bit the beam cone could be nudging up against objects that are even further away, and giving the momentary shows like above?

Hi Dougie,Are the greeneyes
Hi Dougie,
Are the greeneyes no good to eat?
I worked on a boat over in NSW a few times drop lining and if they are the same greeneyes we caught we had a market for the livers ( guessing oil ) but not worth keeping the sharks taking valuable ice box space. Just wondering if rec. fishing and its a quiet day out deep is it worth bringing a few home?
Cheers
Chris.

Eating green eyes
I have not tried eating them but I think it was Mako Magic who once commented on here that he had tried them and they were OK. If you google 'spiny dogfish' you will find that they are caught commercially in various parts of the globe and have been fished to the extent that they are considered endangered in some parts of the world. Oh how I wish that was the case in Perth waters.
I have had success using them as bait, as the skin is tough the bait doesn't come off the hook easily which is a plus when fishing deep so I have found some use for them.
