Hey guys, Ive have been

Wed, 2012-03-14 20:14

Hey guys, Ive have been steadily collecting gear to build FADs and we are going well, currently we are waiting on conformation on a REC Fish West grant that has been applied for. Last years FADs were owned, to my knowlegde, by the Jurien Shire and the Jurien Chamber of Commerce.  they informed me that around 80% of the Chamber members wernt willing to support the project because they couldnt see how they would be finnantually benifited from deploying them. If we get the REC Fish west grant and have approval to deploy more FADs at the current sites we will endevour to do so at our earliest convienience. Taking all thisinto concideration and thefact that the season ishalf way over, it is unlikely they will be deployed this season.

I guarentee when they are deployed EVERYBODY will hear about it

Can't the gear up there go

Wed, 2012-03-14 21:21

Can't the gear up there go out irrespective of the recfishwest grant? I can't see RFW handing money out if people are sitting on gear they could deploy, and aren't.

We don't need anyone else's permission to deploy the gear you already have at the previous locations.

If you're talking about AMSA

If you're talking about AMSA or DoT, they want to know when the gear has been redeployed in the same marks as last year, but that is all.

sorry i thought you needed the rubber stamp before

Given that the argos are getting pushed offshore even further and the warm water is breaking up a little combined with the fact most of the bigger fish have been taken well away from the fads,i think Whitey would be wasting fuel this year anyway.Just have to hope next year it comes back again.

Jeez Till...

Whitey does all of this shit for love not money. To suggest that he is collecting Fads simply as garden ornaments is a joke.He does run a business and spends nearly every day taking punters like you and i fishing. When he's not doing that im sure he might like to spend some time with his family.

Last year we lost all the FADS by the end of the season at least this way we will have a whole heap to deploy at the start of next season for all to enjoy.

Everyone is busy mate. I'm a fulltime student, a parent, I work an additional 20hrs a week in an engineering office and do a few websites in my spare time, as well as some work towards the FADs.

Not suggesting Whitey is collecting them for garden ornaments. I just pointed out there is gear up there that the good people of FW donated already, and it's use isn't contingent on a grant.

It is a pity that the Shire or local chamber of commerce aren't a little more behind it.
