To reply to you and Col both - the dealer i spoke to yesterday said they blamed restrictions by 80% and fuel, interest rates etc 20% for the sale of boats hitting the wall in the last month.
I've noticed a few negative comments about Trailcraft... Do they have a bad rep because of a dodgy product?... Reason for asking is I was looking at purchasing one of their range.... but if there's a fair bit of negativity out there about them I might have to think again.... where there's smoke there's generally fire....
Bar Crusher, Ally - just a comment from one of the blokes at Offshore Marine in Busso. It could well be a winter/temporary thing as no one buys V8 convertibles much either this time of year given the weather and fuel prices. But in saying that there are some pretty good disposable incomes down here and a fair bit of ocean.
My wife works at DPI in Albany and talks the boat dealers down there (registration of plates etc). Some have had to lay off staff because business is so slow. Which is interesting, because the ministers West Coast Bioregion fishing changes have absolutely no bearing down here - they don't apply.

not to be too nasty 7739ian but maybe the reason offshore cant sell a boat down here is because they dont do their job properly ? i bought a $2000 sounder\gps unit off them quite a few months back and at the time they didnt have the maps so i left my phone number with them to call me when they arrived - still no call (bought elsewere now) and im in the market to sell my big plate ali and downgrade to a 16 odd footer - they offered to evaluate my boat and see about a trade - no call on that either .... im in the sales game and if ya cant do ya job right you wont get customers .. its as easy as that ...
You may be right, they seem like nice blokes though - but i understand where you are coming from. And if you think that is unusual - it's not in Busso where a lot of traders shut after 2pm as " they need a life" . If you compare Margaret and Dunsborough to Busselton it's like comparing the Freeway to the Meekatharra to Wiluna road. My wife won't shop in lots of Busselton shops because they treat you as a nuisance. I would hope it is the case rather than a downturn but i hear similar things are happening in Bunbury.
got to agree about the shopping here ... im not sure why but i allwayas find myself working at the only places that open on sundays :( ... shopping here is a nightmare most of the time with bad staff and bad operaters .... i do all my fishing tackle shopping in bunbury now ... better service is worht the drive in my oppinion. .. whoever made the comment " support ya local " abviosly expected the local to support them back ... sadly that doesnt happen here much
Worse in 'Barker' guys - all shops except the pub and the hardware store and supermarket close at 12 on Saturday. Ah well, at least I can get a feed and a drink whilst working on the house on Sat afternoon

Ian.....
Not to take anything away from the Rec fish issues, do you think that may also have to do with petrol prices as well?

Regional issue perhaps
