Issues Register - Changing Avatars & Others

Gang,

I'm having problems changing my avatar. I've accessed My Account then clicked on the Edit tab, then scrolled down to the Picture section. Once there, if I just try a (presumably replacement) Upload Picture, by browsing to the relevany sub subdirectory on my PC, it doesn't change it.

I've also tried deleting the image (on the remote (Fishwrecked) host) - which makes the display of the old avatar dissapear. But then when I do Upload, the old one comes back again!

...and yes, I'm clicking on the Update button at the bottom of the pane.

The attributes of the (intended) replacement Avatar is well within remote host specs.

Any ideas?

If it helps, the URL for my existing avatar is http://fishwrecked.com/files/pictures/picture-1806.jpg

I've even tried a delete, cancel (browser) session, same prob.

Cheers!

Colin

NOHA - bummer! Maybe Adam has your original one you uploaded? Or download it from FWA perhaps or any other forum you use it.

Paul - OK, that's weird, cause I believe I'm using the Blue Morwong in the water one here - or are you talking elsewhere? (I'll look forward to the pics mate - cheers!)

Not sure what you guys are on about, must be something in the water down Albany way.Surprised
Colin, your avatar changed from the "queenie in the water" to the "head shot" to the current "up the leg short shorts" over the space of a few days.
Not sure why you are seeing it as somehing else???

Fish I Hope Andy

Wed, 2008-02-06 12:01

Now now Andy - no direct attacks on members - otherwise you'll have to report yourself to yourself Laughing

What I see is the morwong in the water, I did upload the 'head shot' - but I could never see it, and here's the weird bit - I'm sure I didn't upload the shorts one - that only appeared in one post in FWA (Matthews (MM) Tuna thread).

Unless of course, Jody has surupticiously snuck in to my pictures directory..... Surprised

I think you'll find, if you clear your temp/cache files in your browser client, you'll be able to take your sunnies off. LOL

Paul - depends how you have work situation set up and software deployed.

Presumably, you have a LAN (Local Area Network) and maybe (even) an (email) exchange server and network and individual LAN PC work station coud be set up differently.

Interesting that, as far as home single PCs connected to the Internet through only a modem/router and (presumably) firewall, with your browser client set to refresh site content every time, that the avatar is not refreshed. This was the case with both my browser clients (IE and FF). I can't recall any knowledge to answer that one.

Most (all?) of you would know, that when you browse a web site, the content is loaded into a cache (temorary storage file). This allows the faster loading of websites by loading locally hosted (on your PC) unchanged content and (depending on settings) new content from the remote host (web site). Depends of course on the content volitility of the web site you are downloading. More critical in the days when narrow band internet connectivity was ubiquitous.

You can clear your temp files (cache/cookies/saved password and other web GUI fields) via your browser client or, as Neander says, 'forcing' a clear of the cache (locally hosted web site content) with the simultaneous use of both the Ctril and F5 keys.

Adam : Any other crazy wierd stuff going on that I should or maybe shouldn't know about

Two problems Adam:-

1) You should know about:

When I use the emoticons - it often toggles me from my browser session to the previous alternative session (MS Excell, MS Outlook or whatever) that I have concurrently active.

2) You shouldn't know about:

Can you give item 2 high priority please Adam?

Tongue out Sealed
