if you going to only use it a
if you going to only use it a few times a year, then go get an Ugly Stick 30lb rod 6 foot max for around $80 and spend a little on a good reel, like a Penn 560 and it will last you for years. Put on 50lb braid and you will catch about anything around there.

this is not a bad deal for sale here, if you want an over head reel
Okuma boat combo. A little more used, has been on about 3 trips.
-okuma t15 lever drag loaded with 300m of tortue 50lb braid (cant remember what backing i used)
-jarvis walker tuff tip 15kg stick. Series 1
-this is a nice combo and has served me well.
-price $150
nothing wrong with good second hand gear...

Any chance of borrowing a suitable outfit off someone? Fair bit to fork out for something you'll hardly ever use.
Aside from Tony's bargains there is a combo over on the Hotbite online tacklestore thats great value I reckon, TLD 20 plus suitable rod (forget the brand) for $200 odd, would do the job well, brand new and will last you donkey's years.

Yer minimum 15kg. Reccomend 24kg for charters. Nothing like hooking up and reeling in your line plus 5 other peoples. The sooner you get it in the better.

Pflueger Contender
Most charter boats will fish with heavy sinkers and often more than 60m deep.
If you want to save a bit of money, best to look at 24kg outfits with reels to handle 50lb braid.
We stock the Pflueger Contender boat combos. 24kg overhead rod matched to a good quality star drag reel with levelwind.
They start from $99 (special atm) to $199 for leverdrag versions and add $50-80 for braid, and you're all set!!
