how did everyone go today?

I took the young bloke and his mate for a free dive north of little island, hillarys.  Hoping for some crays and occy.  Three crays all undersized and released.  No occys.  While I waited a mate and I fished off the boat.  3 herring that managed to get past the blowies and wrasse!! Then we trolled along outside the three mile as far north as ocean reef and as far aouth as scarborough.  No luck.  Any way, nice day on the water.  Better than not being on the water.

How did everyone else go?

We put it down to the full

Sun, 2014-03-16 20:17

We put it down to the full moon....

How often do you check your pots?  After many years of not using it (I only have one), I am restoring it (bait basket and ropes etc) in preparation  for steep point in may.

Thinking next season I could set it off ocean reef, just that I might not get to check it regularly or frequently...

 Yeah full moon doesn't help.

Sun, 2014-03-16 20:32

Yeah full moon doesn't help. I don't check them often enough, I'd like to get to them every 5 days or so but it's usually two weeks.

Do you get much trouble with Occy's or Wobby's leaving them that long?

Any specific types of bait that last in the pots a bit longer?

I've been hesitant to leave mine in at Gracetown for a week or so.

Yeah we get the occasional head in the pot that's been occy eaten. I'm more concerned about pilferers though. We've had them in for longer  3 weeks at times and the crays live in them just fine. We use whatever we catch, Dhuie and Baldy heads mainly I try and leave it out for a day before hand to get it to stink a bit. The roaches love that.

 You've done better than us

Sun, 2014-03-16 20:20

You've done better than us peter.  We normally get to mandurah once or twice a year.  Hasn't happened this year.  Only been crabbing in the swan and only seen one keeper which was released (it was his lucky day).

 We were out from Hillarys

Mon, 2014-03-17 19:41

We were out from Hillarys and after a bit of searching ended up with 30 fat sand whiting and a decent skippy. Out with the little guys, 4 and 5 year olds, great fun and a good feed. Out at 8am, back by 11am, out in 25m.
