How is Carnarvon going for fish?
Hello,
I will be heading to Carnarvon for my (normally) annual trip on the 27th January, inshaa'Allaah. Ordinarily we would be there for several weeks and mainly fish the Quobba coast, but we may not be able to make it there this trip. We will be there until the 1st February, when we will be leaving for a week at Steep Point (our first trip to Steep Point).
So, if I may ask the following:
1) Any general reports regarding fish in Carnarvon lately? I have heard even Garth's Rock has been absolutely fishless, so how about any spots closer to the town (1 mile/estuaries/etc)? Any heads up that can be given by any locals? We will be fishing land-based.
2) Any general pointers/hints/tips about Steep Point that anyone would like to give, as it will be our first trip there? We have a spot booked on the Point, as the beach was fully booked. Any tips would be great (ie can baits be dropped deep or is the bottom reefy like Quobba?)
Thanks,
David.

Carnarvon report
A few tailor can be caught off what is left of the old jetty at night.Haven't heard of anything from up Quobba way ,
The wind[25-30knots since Friday and for the next 3-5 days]have knocked the stuffing out of the fishing scene for a while.
Wish you luck but I wouldn't be holding my breath hoping to get a bag full

Carnarvonite, Thanks for
Carnarvonite,
Thanks for that. My mother lives in Carnarvon, so even if no fish are caught there it is not a wasted trip. A couple of tailor for breakfast sounds nice though.
Is the water too shallow at the One Mile (where you can get to) in order to hook a shark? I was wanting to catch one while I was there.

Jetty
There is enough depth at the end of the jetty to get a shark.Night time is best. The prawning jetty is producing a few dart but you have to nearly swim out before climbing up the piles to access it.Northwest seafood have removed several bays of piles to prevent people fishing off it[insurance reasons I think].A few whiting and bream can be caught at pelican point along with the undersize flathead that haunt the sandbank
