hooking up whiting as live bait

Hey guys never done this before so i thought i'd ask for some help in what size hook and how to hook a whiting to use as a live bait to get the best results.

Shoulder
Not sure about down there, but usually through the shoulder with an 8/0 circle. Otherwise you can go through the nose if you really want to 'feed' it to them.

Shoulder if you need to cast our a fair bit coz the hook will rip through the nose if you cast too hard. I hook em through the nose under a float if I'm lobbing one close to the rocks for salmon
