Hi all

Hey everyone, long time lurker and all that, having a squiz at all those jealousy inducing pics on this site.

Thought I'd say g'day, the fishing bug has only just bit me again recently after pretty much doing nothing for the last decade after having moved down from Port Hedland. Those were the fishing days...though it had its quiet moments, I'd be hauling threadfin salmon, (I had tried for years to get these and then one day out of nowhere I landed two beauties) bream, jacks, flatheads, nice whiting, the odd barracuda who wandered in a bit too close to shore (!), gardies, long toms etc etc. Had this weird veiw for years that fishing anywhere else wasn't worth it until my trip to Kalbarri last month changed that for the better, landing my first ever tailor and having lost a few bigger ones as well.

Anyway, enough sentimental jabbering. Just wondering if anyone ever bothers with the area around the Ocean Reef marina? Was down there this morning having my first proper crack at fishing in the metro area, off the rock wall facing south and had no luck, had more snags than a barbeque. Guy a bit to my right hauled in a quite a few herring (I think). Everyone else seemed out of luck as well. Was thinking of giving Hillary's a shot next time off the south wall. I like to pick out an area and have a shot but if any more knowledgable types on here have any suggestions along the coast, I am open to them.

Cheers guys.

Welcome to the site...look forward to reading about your fishing exploits.

Sorry, can't help with any fishing advice around Ocean Reef or Hillarys but I'm sure there's plenty of members from up that way who can help.

regards
rusty...

Welcome to the site mate and happy NY.  Can't help much on the fishing front as I'm a northerner as well, but I don't envy your predicament, I feel it will be all over soon as I move from Exxy (unless its further north!) :)

I am south of the river so carnt point you to much north of the river,

Fishing the rock walls can take its toll, for the herring and top feeders chuck on a float.

When fishing the bottom off the rocks i use a large rod with running sinker, give it the heve Ho, wind in a little slack and leave it.

When time comes to retreave, Stand up tall, rod high, and give it what forrr... careful it dosnt fly out the water to fast, the old star sinkers can do damage.

Have a flick through the search section as well, always handy when looking for bits and piecers!!

Enjoy, look forward to your first report.

Wecome to the site mate, Metro fishing is ok you just have to work at it and chase whats in season. If you dont like Ocean Reef try Mindaries. Fish not far up the marina wall for herring and Gardies with a float of berly cage .

If you want to fish bigger head up the the end and put a big bait out, Sharks, Mulloway and Snapper can be caught along with tailor.

The beach along Quinns Rocks can be ok at times too.

Cheers Grant .
