Help RE Point Peron (for Monday)
Submitted by gumbyconts on Sun, 2010-04-25 19:33
Hi all.
I'll be heading down to Point Peron tomorrow for sunrise throwing around some lures in search of salmon and anything else.
I've never been before so I was hoping some generous individuals would share their favourite locations in this area.
I was thinking of trying the area on the south end (just south of the car park), and the beach as you head east. Is this side or the northern or western side better?
Another area I was thinking of was the area east of the boat pens on the northern side, or the western beach south of the cape along Lease Rd.
Where should I start and where should I move as the day moves on.
Thanks for your help!

Hey mate, park in the bottom carpark and follow the signs to john point. Plenty of salmon are caught there. Be carefull walking out to the point though as it can be a bit sketchy.

well, me = zippo.my brother
well, me = zippo.
my brother in law and i headed to point peron just as dawn hit. was one or two people there waiting for dawn too. more and more people turned up mostly going for gardies and herring who were not doing too badly. unfortunately there were no tailor, salmon or even large herring to go for our metals, poppers and sps.
we decided to head to woodmans point at about 930 since there was no larger fish to be found.
well we got to one of the groynes at woodies and watched many people casting burley blobs with no luck on the gardies and herring, seemed no one was after what we were. we decided to head for a different groyne nearby. when we got there we saw people chucking poppers, mulies and sps. near by wasa dude with a salmon in a bucket. he mentioned his two mates hooking up and losing two and release one or two more. no one hooked up for an hour or so until...my brother in laws rod was bent over, nearly pulling him off a rock. he ended up with a salmon round 3-4 kg.
unfortunately that was all. although there was another dude who also lost a salmon.
i think i ended up seeing about 4-5 salmon today that were caught before we arrived (by line and spear)... and i couldnt even manage a consolation prize (squid, herring...anything).
looks like ill have to keep working to break that cherry (i only want one
).

sorry i didnt mention that,
we were trying the art of lure fishing (unfortunately my self portrait is pretty bleak due to lack of salmon action)
he hooked up on a ~3inch snapback in pearl or whatever the white shimmering colour is.
most of the others earlier in the day were on ganged mulies.
let us know if you hook up tomorrow.

Afternoon
Is it worth a shot there in the afternoon? It seems every one targets salmon in the mornings.

the wind was changing to a
the wind was changing to a south westerly and the tide was going out which made it difficult.
but to tell you the truth i dont really know if these factors played a role at all as i still havent ever caught one of these elusive species.
(im sure the school would have made another pass after 1230 when we left.
