Hey guys and Gals, B4 i take my boat to mechanic thought id ask on here 1st.
With 2 fully charged deep cell batteries my outboard motor is turning over as if the batteriees are flat. Even hooked up jumper leads to car and tried. It just turns over real slow as if its flat as
Ive cleaned all terminals and fittings on batteries & starter and tightened all up. Still the same
Any help would be great
Cheers

Do the batteries have enough
Do the batteries have enough CCA's for the motor? Jumper leads don't always pass enough current.

Has it been starting fine
Has it been starting fine with those batteries before? Check the voltage (state of charge), if it is below 12.5v then the batteries may be low on charge or there may be an issue with a cell. Some deep cycle batteries arent suitable as a starter or high current draw battery, as Vin said, it should have a rating of atleast 300 CCA, would need to be a Hybrid battery for it to be deep cycle and suitable as a starter battery. Are the leads on the battery getting hot? Hot leads will indicate high current draw due to a short in the starter motor (poling). Can you turn the engine over manually? Take the plugs out and if it is difficult to turn over the motor may be seized....Im guessing two stroke?
You could always launch the boat and try push starting it in gear :/
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Sounds like 1 of the brushes
Sounds like 1 of the brushes in the starter could be rusted up.

Just take the starter motor out
yourself and drop of to someone like kempy or another auto sparkie of note and I'm sure you will be back in business for a moderate price
P.s DO NOT take the boat to a outboard mechanic they are real crooks and you will be told it was this and that and that was faulty.....heres your big bill pay up now
