Manual Mode

Gday mate , I had the 8024 in the old boat.much the same as the 20 but bigger screen. It was in Manual Mode for gain or whatever Navman call it and Fish symbols turned off. Using the screen 50/50 , one half obviously GPS I had 25/25 , one half bottom zoom I think and the other just normal bottom. It was the best I could get it , it picked up flares ok but in the end after 3.5 years I bought a furuno 620. No comparison great little sounder. Kept the navman as a GPS.Hope this helps... nev

thanks for the advice i have the old 600 furuno sounder on my old boat it is a good sounder so i guess the 620 would be even better, i am upgrading the sounder in a few weeks to twin 12 inch simrad ttouch screens with all the extras to go along with it. i was just trying to get the most out of this one for the next few weeks. there is next to no info on the net thaat i could find aprt from people saying they where not to happy with the sounder

Gidday Rocko33,I had a 8120

Gidday Rocko33,

I had a 8120 on my Ali when I purchased it, and to describe the sounder in two words.......'Its sh#t!"

GPS was good, but they were reknown as crap sounders.

I've since replaced mine with a HDS10 as GPS and sounder backup, and the 585 furuno +1Kw tranny as main sounder.

There's sweet FA you can do to tweek the 8120 to be any better. It just doesnt have the neccessary internal grunt to be any better. In the old 'puter parlance; crap in:crap out!

The simrad's should prove to be a great upgrade for you!

Cheers, Browny.
