Have to Vent
Being doing the hard yards, been out night fishing 5 times in my 3.2m car topper in the sound, 3 times with devo (fw member). Night on the 5fathom bank, last thursday night north end of garden island amongst 30 other boats with another mate. NO SNAPPER. Everything else KG, duies, whiting , herring, black butts, tuna.
Im frustrated as im seeing these photos up here of all these snapper and i cant get 1 ha ha.
Well last night went out i was the only 1 there , i thought this is it, my time to shine.
Burley out, baits out, working soft plastic waited couple of hours. Bang rod took off, line screaming this it, the 1 ive been waiting for , grabbed the rod , Big head shakes snapper for shore , fish ran out wide of boat 50 pound braid 80 pound leader got him covered was a big fish struggling to get him up of the bottom , he turned, went straight for the wreck pop goes the braid ARRR. I was screaming like Robson Green, choice words coming out of my mouth suprised Rockingham couldnt here me.
All over , packed up me tackle box, rod under me arm and sobbed all the way home lol.
Well..... try again tonight i suppose ha ha Ill get 1.
(Had to vent to someone misses sick of here me)

Forgive my ignorance but as I live up north I haven't had the chance to target the Southern species such as Pink Snapper. Curious as to what they are like eating wise? Are they over-rated? How do they compare to the Black Snapper up north or say Bluebone/Coral Trout?

Doing well so far
in a 3.2m. I've got a 3m and have been wondering about heading to those spots. Have more confidence now. WestOz, I'm a big fan of pink snapper but they're not on par with coral trout and bluebone.
Fishin for a feed and fun.

Yup - sounds like me
Same issues and I am driving a 6.8 not a little 3 metre jobby. Had an absolute stonker alongside the boat last season fishing by myself, trouble was at exactly the same time I was trying to control a 2 metre gummy on the other rod - braids touched and wammo, the braid on the snapper snaps leaving me with a very creditable gummy but loosing me my sole Sound snapper despite numerous attempts.
But it is fishing and when I finally boat that elusive pinky I guarantee Rockingham will hear my cheers.
Keep persisting and you will be rewarded

Pretty keen on the FFB at
Pretty keen on the FFB at night in a 3.2m tinny .. I’m sure you’ll get reward for effort soon enough , Personally found them more on the bite at the change of light.

I heard they are still on FFB.
I personally don't target them inside the sound.
I had more luck catching them behind the islands.
Also the advantage fishing behind the island is you always have other by catch (BB, Dhu, KG and skippy)
I believe from experience they should be hanging around the fringing reefs now getting ready for the spawn.

This snapper fishing business
This snapper fishing business is hard work - going to try the next 3 nights to catch one, if I have no luck I'm hanging my rods up and sticking to shooting them!

Some say bold others say brave I say
You are stark raving mad to go so far at night in a boat that size. But best of luck I hope you land one next time out.

If you're going fishing AT
If you're going fishing AT NIGHT with your boat - respect other boat users and turn on your nav lights. Or in tonights case, old mate's tinny didnt even have lights.

Picked up 2 in the sound
Picked up 2 in the sound last night 55 & 60cm. Lost a few too when they spat the bait after a quick run or when my leader broke
. All caught on CS squid heads on a lightly weighted double snell rig.

1 undersize snapper and 1 undersize DHU.
But caught my PB King George at 58 cm whopper and a few good size skippy.
Also there was a big school of leather jacket, Never seen or caught that many leather jackets before. All released.
KG and skippy for dinner, a wonderful evening on the water so can't complain.
