a 1kw or better still a 2kw sounder. If you have'nt got one of these you will battle to find them.

Yeah,  but its no fun jigging all day to explore for them when you dont have any ground. When you know the fish are there or its a good spot, its a different story of course :D.

mightymouse, I'm guessing you meant 12/O, not size 12, hehe.

Info!

Sun, 2010-01-31 10:22

Rig - 13/0 Gladiator or Youvella Circle, 150lb Jinkai Plus leader, big Mako crane three-way swivel's, heavy 48-50oz snapper lead!

Baits - Slimmy mackerel, californian squid and scally mackerel. Big bulky offering and oily baits are the way to go!

Sounder/Depths - Look for fish on drop offs, depth wise i've got em from 300-500m and a descent sounder a must!

Bait is a good way to find fish and jigging the next progression. Jiggings a buzz and my favourite style of deeper fishing......they love eating jigs =)

where all the counter lines start bunching up is give or take 300m territory. Had a few runs out there, but it aint my cup of tea. Its a long trip out, a long drop down and a long retrieve up.

*sorry if the pic is too big, I cant be arsed re-sizing it.

Can vary Steve depending on where i launch from & what direction I head. I fish a wide area but i'd say 30-35NM one way and I dont mind travelling as often the further I go the better the fishing....wink!!!

Thanks for the info guys, a definate cut lunch and water bag type  of journey. What about the hundred metre mark ?What kind of fish would we be likely to encounter? I'm going to be heading out of Seabird so I guess the terrain will be similar to Perth waters. Will wait for the Indian summer type weather when the souwesters start to die down.Any info appreciated.

even 1 kilowatt will only get bottom

Mon, 2010-02-01 05:51

readings when going real slow

and even when you do find good ground out there the fish are not always there and when they are there the current is that strong you cant even get to the bottom with 3 kilos of lead , been out about 6 times now thats over 1000 kms travelled about 1500 in fuel for 1 greyband cod and 1 harpuka and 100 green eyed sharks

You are correct Bodie

They seem to be unaffected by the pressure changes.  Not 100% sure but I don't think sharks have air bladders.
