Deepwater Hapuka
Chasing Hapuka your looking for fish on the edges in the depths of 300-500m . No major bottom structure to hold these fish so having a good sounder like what my boss Ryan uses ie Furuno and descent transducer is a must plus spending time on the water.........the key.
Your deck winches/800m of 80lb dacron braid is fine.
* As for other tips, check out next Sundays - 16th January FWA TV show, Ryan shows the what/where/how/why for Hapuka & Bass groper at the Rotto Trench....sure to be a popular show!!

no worries
Green eye sharks are common in the outer areas of Hapuka but leather jackets is a sign of shallower water where Hapuka arent.
We recently got another order in of Berkley Whiplash (sells out quickly) but we mainly stock upto 80lb and more ideal for deeperwater ie less water/drift drag.

no
Not so wrong direction but but when you find Hapuka you generally dont get (or only every so often) the greeneye sharks.......keep on trying.
