Im a fan cos he's a local lad, but his last 5 or so fights have barely been contests. My respect for him (and boxing in general) went down after that stupid rigged Briggs fight. Even last night the ref was clearly on Danny's side, stepping in so early after the first knockdown and then letting the barrage continue at the end of the 9th
Would have loved to see him win, but to be honest the knockout might send him back into retirement or into a final payday with Mundine.
But I agree about knocking him for the sake of it is stupid, he has tried more then most to bring us good events in Perth and seems an alright bloke.
JIM1 my missus is on your side, she is a nurse and still hates him for that Busselton hospital incident. You two are definately in the minority though
Geez thats a bit harsh JIM1 doesn't have to like Green because you love him, relax there old pal everyones entitled to their own opinion.
I'm not a big fan of green either these days he seems to be fighting lower level or pass their peak guys, I remember he fought a title fight against Stipe Drews for the light heavyweight title where Stipe who was the "champion" bounced around the ring throwing hardly any punches to lose by unanimous decision to Green, not long after that fight Stipe retires from boxing which made me believe the fight was rigged a few fights after were also shrouded in contraversy. From that point my support for the Green Machine fell a great deal.
Jim Why have you been waiting for this for years??
He is a great Aussy boxer who did not look at his best at all which a lot of credit has to be given to tarver very exp and smart i dont think green should retire go back to the drawing board start again, tarver is 42
All i read now is people coming out and bagging the guy over one fight, and most of those guys wouldnt know what the inside of a ring looks like
Um he won though mate dont need no rematch? Complete diff weight levels also.I am all for supporting wa and australia etc but when your dealing with bikie mobs and others like so and all your fights are old men or very out of date champions it spells out RIGGED. He may sound great for his fans etc but its one big act.
I know all that. The whole Green v Mundine thing has never been for belts, was all about publicity and bragging rights. Considering Green was @10kg under his normal weight Mundine really should've knocked him out. It was never gonna be the fight it could've been with the big weight difference. Definatly wont be a rematch now.
Greeny did a great job publicising WA and should be remembered for that and just bin everything else.
Danny Green will be remembered by this catch phrase: " Cant wait for the re-match" because thats what his fans always say when he gets beaten because there is always an excuse as to why he was BEATEN
Danny was a good champ, just did not know when to bow out when at the top of his game.
This new gun is a hard hitter and had the staminia to take it all the way to round 9. A case of one fight to many in my view.
pps, just been reading the east coast write up and big houhau over the gloves. Seems Greens camp may have cost him the fight with the substitution of gloves from the contract agreed brand???
The battle might have been won the night before the fight, when both parties met for the rules meeting and a blow-up occurred over the gloves.
The contracts called for Everlast or Winning brand gloves, but Green's camp arrived with Grants gloves, carefully screenprinted with the "Green" logo.
A proud Tarver refused to wear them, and armed with the wording of the contract he threatened to walk away from the fight unless they were changed.
But as this was going on Tarver's trainer Buddy McGirt, brought in a fortnight ago for just this reason, picked up a glove and walked away from the crowd.
He put the glove on and felt barely any padding over the knuckle. Beautiful, he thought.
He called Tarver over and told him to try the glove on, and Tarver also soon realised how little padding over the knuckle the glove carried.
"Shut the f ... up," McGirt said, and they walked back and, ahem, reluctantly accepted the glove. It had a devastating effect last night.
Green lost it because he was outclassed, kept at distance by the jab and damaged by some body blows which lessened his power. Tarver's defence was more than enough to keep out all but the sweetest shot, which danny was nowhere near producing.
Danny Green should give at away for good and stick to his tv adds!!!
and Mundine didn't have to knock him out he still won the fight so who is the weak one?? and if he has beat him once who cares if he doesn't want to fight him again he wanted to proove he could beat him and he did why give him a second chance!! just my opinion
What I meant was he was not some hazz-bean or washed out fighter going for a big crack or last pay check.
Yes Tarver is dam close to making the hall of fame as well, Also being a strong south paw it also made the fight a lot more hard than Danny was use to.
I still think Green is a great boxer and was a good world champ.
Im a Danny Green fan and was cheering for him against Tarver. Whilst he might be a good bloke, even as a non astute boxing follower it was clear to me that Danny wasnt even in the same league as Tarver. I hope he retires with his credibility as a boxer intact.
i have watched all of greenys fights and i must say he was not his normal self againts tarver, he seemed to be holding back, maybe its due to tarver out clasing him.
but give it another go i reckon, he is still in good shape.

Jim your a tosser mate. Danny Green is the best boxer ever to come out of WA. He has aways tried to look after his fans in WA and is a great bloke.
I can't understand why people would knock him. If your just trolling for a bite then fuck off back to your hole.

agree mate
when hes on top every one loves him, but as soon as hes down they wana kick the shit out of him!!!
all shit aside, greeny was and still is good for wa boxing scene as well as giving the up comers a go as his undercards.
he was out boxed last night fair and square and the better boxer won...simple as that... he did wobble tarver in one of the rounds!!
i just hope he excepts the rematch tarver offered him, as i think greeny has still got more to offer.

I'd say
Jim's a Mundine fan and because Mundine was too weak to knock Green out, or have another crack for the matter.

Bit off more than he could
Bit off more than he could chew this time, might have been an old boy at 42 but certainly can still fight. Green had nothing.
