GP7000 or Navman trackfish 6600

Hi all, I am after some advise.  I am getting a Furuno 585 with M260 tranny from a sponsor for this site. Currently I have a Navman 6600 for my sounder and a GP 7000 for my plotter.  Which one do I keep as a plotter Gp 7000 or Trackfish 6600.  The Trackfish is nicely mounted in the dash in front of steering wheel, which would have to be removed and panel replaced to suit the GP 7000, if I end up keeping the Gp 7000. I know that the GP7000 is worth way more, it also has a more recent C Map than the Trackfish 6600.  I will then mount the 585 on the dash where the GP 7000 is currently.

Just wanna know what others would do?  Look forward to your replies.

GP 7000

A benefit of having the 7000 and the 585 is that you can link the two together and using the TLL sentence mark from your sounder on to your chart plotter.

It seems a lot more anglers are trying to run their electronics this way lately.  I am pretty sure the 6600 doesnt accept TLL.

As far as spares goes for the 7000 Furuno as a rule hold parts for 7 years if they need fixing.  We have some come through our workshop that new boards or the GPS reciever board has died, even customers breaking the plugs on the back.  So there is some comfort knowing that you can have it fixed if something does go awry.

Cheers Rhyss

2001 C Map Max

Thu, 2011-10-06 12:54

I know what you mean about the resoloution on the Navman, but I find the info on the screen isn't as comprehensive as the GP7000. I checked out the cards in the 6600, and they are from 2001, while the GP7000 cards is from 2006. Can you still get the Cmap Max cards for the 660, (they are a longish card that is mounted sidewards)?

And PGFC, I have read about linking the 2, what is the real benefit, and what will it allow me to do if they are linked.

One thing that is confusing though with the GP7000 is that when you want to zoom in on a point on the map, you have to hit the - button and not the + bottom like the 6600.  Hope this make sense and I hope i have it the right way round, anyhow, they are opposite to each other. You would think the 6600 has it the right way.

Cheers

If they're linked correctly,

If they're linked correctly, you can press the mark button on the sounder, and it sends the coords through to the GPS, its quite handy up to a point.

The reversed buttons on the 7000 do my head in a bit as well.

Jeppesons

Jeppesons are the C-map agent-but best put a bit of plywood over your a-hole when you ask for it to be updated.

Mine is 2001 and they quoted me to update-$265, Perth to Onslow

Thats to plug your one into their system, for info that has no royalty attached.

Notices to Mariners and chart updates are supplied on paper free or for a nominal handling fee from the Hydrographic Office.

The exact same charts are available for your Iphone or Ipad for $14.99

Pics of finished dash

Sat, 2011-11-05 22:15

Well I ended up keeping the GP7000 as not really happy with the detail on the Navman Trackfish 6600.  I had to replace the black panel which houses the plotter coz of different cutouts.  So I have the GP7000 in front of steering wheel and 585 on top of dash.  I also went to Taylor Marine and bought a 6 pin linking cable and have linked the two together. It works great. Cheers.

GP7000

Mate, just joind this site, and noticed the comments about the 7000. I have the combo unit, the GP7000-F, and its awesome. Its been in my boat for 5 years, and had not one ounce of trouble, touch wood, and its mounted exactly how you got yours. Hope you enjoy it.
