hi guys
got given a new rod and i am wondering what reel to match it with.
the rod is a jarvis walker vector 8'6'' with a line class of 2-4 kgs.
will mainly be used for bread and butter fish.
does anyone have any suggestions?
BTW: i am looking to spend a max of about 50-60 $

why dont you go see the guys
why dont you go see the guys at oceanside tackle this weekend they have bulk knowledge and all this weekend is 20% off everything. $50 to $60 bux will get you something sweet for herring, tailor, salmon, mulloway etc. Goodluck mate!

Jarvis walker
try a jarvis walker sovereign there one of the best reels under $60 bux its got a smooth drag system, 5 ball bearing drive, infinite anti-reverse, aluminium spool with, stainless steel main shaft, brass pinion gear, thick bail wire which is better if mainly used for beach fishing
got mine from bcf the 2000 size is $40 bux while their sale still on

hey mate, try a small little
hey mate, try a small little pflueger number. tey are 10000 times better than a jarvis walker soveriegn. just gotta really look after it, because they have a tendancy to seize up easily.

nahh!
i put my soveriegn through s##t and still going strong, did no maintenance apart from re lubing it every year and had not one problem, bought a new one last saturday (2000 size)and why is a pflueger a better reel if it has tendency to seize

not sure if im the only one
not sure if im the only one out there that has the same mindset, but id much rather use a better quality branded reel, than a jarvis walker. a penn accord would do a wicked job too, but not sure on the price. you said "which is better if mainly used for beach fishing". i dont think Davy is mainly going beach fishing that often for bread and butteries.

i had a
soveriegn and yes jarvis walker dont have a hugely good reputation but the soveriogn was a really good value for money reel, funny enough, has a pretty similar design to the penn accord inside and now jarvis walker owns penn its all the more likely.
the penn accord, powerspin, affinity are all excellent and the same, and if youre worried about the jarvis walker name, go for something like the penn powerspin or other penn reel
you may spend $20 more than your set price but its false economy buying a cheap reel a month when a good one will last you years
brothers got a penn powerspin and for the price its excellent feels like the day we bought it and after being dunked in the water and now getting to 2 or 3 years i think its been excellent value
