A glimpse of the future today

Out the 5 with a friend today, caught and released a 42cm and 35 cm dhus, In February you could keep these although I'm sure I won't, got a nice 66 cm model on a purple swing head from big john's jigs, some Skippy and wrasse for crab bait

Even worse went out today and caught two dhuies. Moved away from the spot immediately and didn’t manage any more fish. Come April we coulda stayed in the spot and caught four. New regs will be the demise of dhuies imo.

ps then some peanut came and asked if we wanted a dhuie as they had too many. So we also as a whole get what we deserve.

Well done on the feed and on the release of the others.

Definitely worrying about the future of dhuies.

 As evidenced by some cretin

As evidenced by some cretin asking if you want any dhuies, the practice of upgrading is what will determine the success, or otherwise, of the new regs. I can now drive around all day with a couple of dead 40cm fish without penalty and just keep fishing for a better one. Upgrading has always occured but I suspect it will become more common. I hope I'm wrong.

Yep people will want to

Yep people will want to maximise their 6 months. And charter operators will want to maximise each tag. And pros still given 2/3 of allocation based on flawed history figures from 20 years ago.

Just because you can do it, doesn't mean you should. I guess each individuals own moral compass will dictate how they act our on the water. Hopefully the 17,889 who signed the e-petition will do the right thing.

Yep agree it's up to the individual to do the righty but anyone who has spent time chasing the silver suitcase has a pretty good idea of the outcome regardless with these changes. As always there will be the minority

You're right LJ and the new rules will mean rec fishos will be a bigger part of the problem going forward. Then they'll come with a total ban.
