G'day
Hi all,
Long time reader, first time poster to the forum. Just joined up after a while of umming and erring as to whether or not to sign up to fishwrecked. Finally decided to join as my usual fishing buddy couldn't make it for what looked like a perfect night fish tonight (Tuesday 26th) but it didn't matter as I couldn't post up a deckie spot until now anyway. I live in Kwinana and I have been fishing and diving around Garden Island. I own a fraser 5.25 with a 2006 75hp 2 stroke stinker but it hasn't missed a beat since I became the new owner of it about a year and a half ago. I have only just got into the fishing this year as the conditions haven't been the most favourable for diving and the only reason that the fishing has been persued was accidently coming across some good ground close to the Rockingham boat ramps with black arse and dhu and now I am hooked on the next one I'll catch. I would like to do some trips up North or down South with the boat to try new ground but for the time being, it will just have to be local and being a new boatie, it would be nice to go with another boat for safety. Just purchased a Lowrance Elite 5 chart GPS combo and I put that down to finding the good ground recently. Have been doing a lot of night fishing when weather permits as the weathert has been good lately and have been doing well.
Look forward to posting successful trips and when my usual deckie can't make it, taking someone willing out for a fish. Here's a photo of the Dhu fish fillets from last week's outing, hopefully. The can of fly spray is there for showing the size of the fillets.

Just ask and you will receive
Its that sort off place on here. If you arent sure about something just ask and their is bound to be someone on here that will assist in however they can. I have been fishing for more than 40yrs and dont know didle about everything related to fishing. It is an immense sport/hobby and you will never know everything.
If I want to know something new I just ask, and someone one here assist. Its just awesome how we share (apart from GPS points). My forte is not a tackle junkie, so if I want something new for the arsenal I usually ask the question on here. Go for it and you will learn heaps.
welcome to the site and enjoy.

Welcome mate, couple nice
Welcome mate, couple nice fillets there!!!
Interesting use of bug spray can to guage size!! not something I'd think of putting next to fresh fish fillets! :)
Mate i fish out of rockingham quite a bit as well, some good ground out there, unfortunately lots of it is a fair way out. If you can find dhu's in close your doing bloody well (there are some but very hard to find)
Might see you on the water sometime!

The night fishing has been
The night fishing has been within a couple of km's of GI in about 13m of water and the ground that I have found has been purely accidental. Not that there was too much structure but the fish seem to be there. There has been some great weather over the last few months for night fishing and I try make the most of it. Plus I work where I can see the water conditions within the sound so I know when to shoot off work 5 minutes earlier to set up the boat. As far as the fly spray can, it was the biggest thing closest at the time and then thought I should have tried to find something else once the fillets were portioned up. I am yet to nail the sized snapper yet but I am sure the snapper season this year in the sound will change that. Went out one calm night two months ago in the sound and found some good ground. Heaps of snapper tiddlies.

It's amazing the ground you
It's amazing the ground you get can get Dhuies on. Nothing showing on the sounder structure wise, usually cracks in the limestone coral bottom.Caught my PB Dhuie off nothing ground.

Results tend to point that
Results tend to point that way. Over the last 6 months, I have pulled 7 good sized dhuies from around the same area and I think I drifted over a good ledge another time resulting in good sized black arse. One of the spots I got two Dhuies from in one night was about 10 meters and on a good day, I could see the bottom from the boat when I was passing by and couldn't work out why they were there as it was little knobs of rocks and nothing spectacular. A good sounder makes all the difference too. I had a crappy black and white sounder and I don't think that I would have found the ground. But it has been night time for the best results for me anyway.
