gauges

one for the Tech Heads.
I have a 200hp ETECH, 2014 YOM on my boat. So the question is, is it possible to replace the factory gauges, with something like an IPad, or similar.
I know ( or think I know) that you can sometimes run or hook them up to your GPS / fish finder, but I really want just a new style of gauge, more modern digital looking display, rather than the standard 2 round gauges.
Or am I just dreaming ??
thanks in advance

Can get the I-command gauges
Can get the I-command gauges which are still round but digital.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

You can connect most modern engines
to the latest sounder /GPS combos.
Units such as hds lowrance head units, and also the garmins, have smart gauge technology.
you take a feed from a 4 pin factory plug on the outboard, and then connect that to an nmea2000 network plug setup. There is plenty of info on YouTube how to do this. It will set you back about $400 plus whatever the sounder / GPS unit is priced at.
nothing available for iPad as yet as far as I know. Mainly because they don't have a great number of input ports.
Cheers

the I command digital gauges
are actually Lowrance LMF400 gauges. I had the I command units on twin 250 E tecs and the Lowrance LMF400 on my previous boat. They provide an array of functions including fuel usage, worked fine

I think if you already have
I think if you already have the I command gauges you already have the evinrude engine interface running up under your dash to supply the info to your I command gauges which run on the NMEA 2000 info source. If you hook into or make a NMEA backbone from here you can hook this data into a Lowrance or Simrad unit (certain models only), most of which now have wifi and bluetooth for system mirroring onto your I pad, the main drawback being that it only mirrors what is on your units screen.
There are 2 Simrad gauges available that would just be replacements for your in dash round gauges, IS42 and IS 35 these are square and adopt the sweet looking glass bridge design that Simrad has with most of their higher end units now.
Or you could get the GO 5 unit and use it as a digital dash gauge and back up GPS / sounder.
Either way you are just using the same NMEA 2000 info that you have from the gauges you have now to supply the same info on a different shaped display. Your I command gauges are worth just under about $300 - $400 ea, the only thing you will achieve is a new look. All depends what you want I guess.

Evinrude have a module called
Evinrude have a module called E-Link which converts data from a NMEA2000 bus to WIFI. You can then install an app on a iPad or Android device and view the engine parameters.
It's designed to work with the G2 engines, however because most of the NMEA2000 engine data uses standard sentences you should still be able to get them from the gen 1 engines.
Most likely you'll have to keep your round gauges to receive the proprietry engine alarm codes, but things like RPM, speed and fuel usage should just be standard NMEA2000 data.
If you could get it to work properly then it might be what your looking for.
