Furuno TVG settings

 Hi all,

I run my TVG high on as suggested by Greg Lampret from Wicked Fishing. I notice that some people here suggest that to run it on Medium. I tried that on that over the last few Days at Cervatnes and I didn't notice a lot of difference apart having the shift my gain from 2.4 in 60 - 70mtrs to 4+. What are the benefits in running your TVG on Meidum or even low?

Cheers Gunner

Turning up the TVG makes the signals near the surface weaker and the signals near the bottom stronger.

When you get deeper and have to crank the gain up a bit, then it can help to set the TVG higher in order to reduce surface clutter and increase the bottom signal. The surface clutter doesn't really make that much difference though because you usually just zoom in on the bottom anyway.

The disadvantage of having it set too high would be that you might miss fish that are near the surface or in shallow water.

time varied gain

the tvg function or time varied gain means as you go deeper the signals take longer to return to the transducer as these signals get longer the time varied gain increases! i run mine on medium too its just what is recommended! anything over 150 metres i set mine to high!
