Furuno Chirp sounder
Just a breif note to let readers know i was lucky enough to get hold of a pre release Furuno dff1 uhd chirp sounder module, recieved it today and will install and ocean test it on the weekend. Having used the simrad bsm2 and the garmin gsd 26 offerings i am looking forward to putting the furuno thru its paces. The unit will only run a 1KW AIRMAR 200kh or 50 kh transducer so it will be fitted to a a tm265 200 hz airmar chirp transducer. Interesting that furuno has relesed the model in Australia prior to its U.S release. A bit of a turn arround going on past releases . The unit retails at $2450 but shopping arround will lower this price. The module is to be linked to a furuno TZ14 MULTI FUNCTION DISPLAY That furuno have provided with the latest updates to run the chirp module. Will keep you posted.

Yeah bit weird that Furuno
Yeah bit weird that Furuno didn't chose to support the middle chirp band, it is very popular in Japan.
Nice to see some real world feedback for it though.

furuno chirp
Costs are frightening, the tz14 retails at $7800 in AUS all the following are prices ex usa tz14 $5200 but you can buy a smaller screen non touch $4000 for an 8 inch screen with a furuno 3d unit, transducer $1050 note lower current exchange rate plus freight and gst all await you , and the dff1 uhd chirp module $ 2180 at this stage only in aus. Best prices from Luke at Chivers marine locally, HE IS A GREAT GUY, knowsthe gear iside out and extremely helpful OR Ch Smith in the east. Sorry for the bad news.

Yes they are, already done
Yes they are, already done the homework but was waiting to see how furuno priced (sadly now I know). With a new bub the minister of war & finance has put a lock on the fiscal fund, like the others I will be sitting back for a while not that my current set up is any issue but I do like the idea of chirp.

I would be very interested to
I would be very interested to see how the CHIRP unit performs in non ideal conditions (ie : at speeds over 7 knots and with a bit of chop). Your feedback eagerly awaited......

I looked at al the CHIRP units closely, spoke with heaps of people.......and ended up with a 585.
Just a bit early in the development, but no doubt it will improve in the future.
