Furuno 627 transom mount

Hi guy.. just after some advise if I may please. I have a 18ft ranger runabout 1978 fibreglass boat. I purchased a furuno 627 sounder and have tried to install the transom mount on the port side of my hull will little success. I get reading at 10 knots but any faster I can’t read the bottom at all. I have been looking at google videos on installing but not getting any help from the videos. Can anyone assist in helping me with a video or letting me know on where to place it or how far from the motor, on a flat surface below the hull face etc on the particular hulls? I also have a HD’s 5 mounted on the star bird side but the also reads bad at speed. I have also tried moving the transom transducers around as well. I have a 90merc on the back too. Any help would be most great as I would like to continue to transom side mount them. Cheers Don

Just google the transducer type and there should be an installation guide with all the info you need. I just bought a used 585 and tm 260 and it was quite simple in the end good luck

Can you take a pic of where you mounted it ?

Also, what transducer do you have ?

I recently went thru this, took some trial and error but I get solid readings over 20kn now which is perfect for me.

It should be mounted on the starboard side, mount it so the face is about 3mm below the edge of the hull with the rear of the transducer tilted down a couple of dregrees

 Agreed,

if mounted on teh starboard side you get the downward bubbles from the prop not interferring as much

if you mount port side you will get prop was bubbles being forced into the reading zone basically.

hold a ruler or straight edge along the bottom of your hull and the bottom reading edge should be 3-6mm below that line in an attempt to get clear water.
Also dont want it mouncted behind a section of the transom that throws bubbles, chine, strake whatver.

Awesome guys I will swap it from the port to the starboard side. Must it b a certain distance from the prop as long as there’s no interference? Also I have an HD’s 5 mounted on the starboard side which I have to adjust. Can they b side by side? As I only use the HD’s for the gps.. transducer is a P66. Thanks for all the help

You can mount them side by side within reason.  Probably want at least 100mm between them.  Just don't want any turbulance pushing dirty or aerated water under the transducer.  Ive run lowrance transducer and a p66 side by side before, they don't interfere with each other.
