I see where your coming from
I see where your coming from feral, i have seen a few charters use ordinary mono as bottom bouncing leader (only because it comes in bulk 1000m rolls) and they still catch fish!

I reckon mono is the go for
I reckon mono is the go for bottom bouncing....... some good Ande Pink or Schneider is spot on. From my experience the fluro seems to make a bit of difference when using the plastics in the lighter line sizes (20-30 lb)

Can still catch fish on any
Can still catch fish on any old line, but its a matter of how many you'll catch. I use mono for most deeper work though, pretty much anything 40lb and up.
For lures, plastics, flies and light jigging I use fluoro though. For the light stuff I like Duel (will have to double check which exactly when i'm home). Comes in reasonable lengths, but a really compact spool and well designed spool. A lot of fluoros have crap spools so due to the springyness of the fluoro it just springs off. Unless its really thin fluoro (8lb or less) the line catches dont work. Especially if they're made from the same hard material as the spool. It comes up to 30lb I think. Heavier than that i've used the YGK galis (has a black spool). Comes in 35lb which is nice. Nitlon was horrible though. Ultra thick. 8lb was thicker than the 20lb duel I have!
Though, I have experimented with heavy fluoro for a few applications. E.g. switchbait rigs/chafe protection leader (sharks/billies) and marlin lures where you may be able to use 150lb or 200lb instead of 300lb+ for the same abbrasion resistance, but significantly less visible in the water. That being said, I havent ever caught a billfish, but I do wonder if fluro could be a better option in some cases than mono (if you were to ignore price!)

Black Magic
Just because it comes with intelligent packaging so you don't end up with expensive line spilling out everywhere.

I know what you mean
It's amazing that some of the stuff you're supposed to use a bit at a time comes with packaging that doesn't allow it to be drawn off the spool easily or even worse, in loose coils! Saw 100m coil of fluoro on eBay last night. What a hassel.

Big fan of black magic fluro.. Won't find too much of it on eBay unfortunately. You can buy a roll for between $15-$30

I use mainly Triumph
I use mainly Triumph ,Seaguar.Varivas and also Galis.
To prevent the line from spilling out of the spool, use a hair band of a diameter large enough to go over the spool. Ask your missus for one.
I bought heaps to use on my reel spool and also leader spool, failing which use a rubber band.
Use FC for trout, bream & flattie cos breams are finicky and flattie has raspy jaws that wear out leader quickly.
Also FC for light to medium jigging, that's 20lb - 60lb and anything heavier I fall back onto mono cos heavy FC is really stiff and springy, abit like using wire. Got a spool of Triumph 100lb FC leader and hardly use.
Shallow water jigging 6-20m I reckon fluoro carbon is the way to go as water clarity allows the fish to see the leader. Fishing off Pekan (East M'sia) proves that FC outfished mono leader due to clarity of water and depth (13-17m).
For surface plugging though I prefer supple mono as it works a treat on shallow diving minnow's & stickbait's action when twitched.

Thanks
for the feedback everyone.
I think I'll go fluoro in the recommended brands up to about 50lb and go mono after that.
