Fishwrecked speed

Hey guys I know work is/was been done - is this still happening?

I just want to know if it is my internet connection or the website. It is running really slow for me and takes ages for a new post to load.

Its the website mate, we had some stuff changed today, but it looks like it didn't fix anything - maybe made it worse if anything.

I will have to look to other options very soon to resolve this, hang with us.

Cheers,

Adam

I think the things Sam and Adam changed last night may have fixed the problem. (touch wood) Wink

When you click that arrow, you are just going back to the previous page that has allready been downloaded and (saved in your cache) when you click "latest content" it reloads the "latest content" from scratch.. downloading any changes that have occured aswell as all the little pictures/adds/words again.. if that makes sence..

variations

Playing around with variations of things at the moment to try and see which ones are causing the slow downs.  The author is one of them unfortunately and it pisses me off too, but we will try and sort it as soon as and get it back. Because latest content is like a table, it has to draw information from all over the site to be compiled (think about when it is posted down to the second, the site has to count that and keep it tracked) and with near on 5 years of forums and images to go through as old data gets brought back to the fore.

ie, 80 forum/image titles in l/c - 80 individual authors - at times over 5 years to count - a latest comment whenever it is added and a timer to count that as well times that by 100 + users and however many guests all trying to access it at the same point in time.  (neverlone all the other bits and pieces - videos etc etc)

The other thing which has been slowing it is the tracking - when 2 or more people start tracking it causes a que in processes as it has to bring up a heap of details on what that person has been posting on.  We have upgraded the tracking module and will most likely be disabling it for members (the only reason I have it is to figure out who the trolls are and non genuine members) It seems that this is the major cause of the lag spikes and the backlog of queries (requests for info) whilst the tracking goes on seems to compile until the site just become unuseable and once everyone starts logging off those queries can be dealt with and it starts to speed up again.

Hopefully it will mean the site is fast again and I will start playing around with the latest content to see if we can't keep it fast but with the valuable information.

As for the comments in 'is fw flat', the site always goes through lulls, but if you have commented saying so, how about you do something to help out - go for a fish, take some pics, comment on others catches, buy some FW merchandise, tell your mates about the site and lets get it cranking again.  I'm sure most of you long term guys know how it works and its always ebbs and flows - I know the main reason is the speed as it has driven me nuts lately, but hopefully we have it sorted now (will find out when its under load tonight) and we can get things moving.

Cheers,

Adam

Just seems to struggle when masses of people get on between 7-9 but is great during the day.  Once a site gets to a certain size it becomes a nightmare to maintain, but were getting there.

As for something to post about, because people have such high expectations of this site due to the standards previously set if it goes quiet for a week they think somethings up.  Only any given day over 50 forum threads get posted on multiple times, theres always plenty to read and view.  Sure plenty of people will be away over easter getting into the action so sure it will pick up again soon.
