I'd recommend against a spinning reel for trolling. Nothing against the reel itself (its good for what it does), but IMO spinning reels are not suited to trolling.

certainly reels like the tyrnos tld's etc will do the job, also reels like the shimano 2 speeds tld30 2 speed etc, ajking make a nice 30lb trolling reel and a very good price, lever drag and 2 speed, apart from that spend money and go a penn international or shimano tiagra

prob around the 500 mark, maybe a touch more, would be a good alternative to spending the grand on a tiagra or penn

if you are prepared to buy from O/S

Mon, 2009-12-21 21:30

then you could get a TLD 50 2 speed from the states for ~$450 delivered (depending on the exchange rate)

for me the money wasnt an issue thats why i have 12 penn inters, though mind you the shimanos i have had over the years have been great reels like the tts or the beastmasters.

even troll ebay (US)

for the Tyrnos 50's as well - some of them go for high two hundreds / low three hundreds and approx US$40 postage. Better body construction (alloy) than the graphite TLD's.

haha no worries, good to see the rods made it up there.

the okuma reels arent too bad, and they are getting better and better, but for me its only left to 2 reels for game fishing inters and tiagras
