Fisheries and half snapper
Submitted by Walfootrot on Wed, 2012-09-19 15:15
Just spoke to fisheries about the snapper being bitten by the sharks, and if they counted towards your bag limit.
And yes they do count as part of your bag.
Now for the fun bit, they must be size, and 2 halfs dont count as 1 fish ( I had to ask lol )
So this is just a heads up, if you keep half a snapper, make sure its size and it will count towards your bag

Seems a waste if you get a half snapper that is just under 50cm, and you have to ditch it back.
Oh well guess it just encourages people to keep fishing till they get their limit of whole snapper.

what a ridiculous statement
the bloke who you spoke to must be a complete knob! this is just encouraging people to throw back fish and keep catching and losing fish to sharks! and how could they prosecute you for a half snapper if you can clearly see it was size!! ridiculous

Dont think that they would
Dont think that they would prosecute you if it was clearly over size. But as far as the law states it must be over the min size is how he put it to me.

has to count
It has to count otherwise people will be hacksawing off the tails of their fish and saying sharks got it so they can keep a few extra. Unfortunately theres those sort of people out there that ruin it for the legitimates.

Personally I'd be pretty
Personally I'd be pretty embarrassed to have more than one fish in the esky if I got one killed by a shark.
They probably should just charge people that get three sharked and put two in the esky with exceeding their bag limit.

how do you determin size from half a fish
are you saying that the half or what ever percent of the fish you have after it has been sharked must be greater than 50cm because if the fish has been sharked and that remaining bit is less than 50cm how do you tell what size the fish was.

With the spawning about to kick in and every man and his dog out there before the ban starts, how many of you are getting sharked? Just curious as to how much fish is being thrown away.
