Fish Identification

Can you please assist in identifying these species caught in local waters.  I am on a quest to catch 500 different species.

Third is a breaksea cod (more commonly known as black arse). Dunno about the rest, http://fishwrecked.com/content/fishwreckapedia may be able to help?

Best of luck with the 500!

The books to buy are   Marine Fishes of Tropical Australia and South East Asia by Gerry Allen  and for down south,   Sea Fishes of Southern Australia by Barry Hutchins and Roger Swainston. They cover nearly all the fish you will come in contact with.

Book work

I think the first one is a silver spot, second one is a striped stingaree, third one is a Marcia Hines better known as a black arse or by the proper name of break sea cod, forth is a  sweetlips, either a painted or gold spotted, where you caught it may go a long way to help,

Not sure on the last one, looks to be from the threadfin family but cannot see any beard / filaments

Thanks for the response thus

Thanks for the response thus far. The sweetlips was caught near Esperance. The last one seems to be a threadfin - on closer inspection I noticed the barbs.

Sweetlips

I think that the sweetlips might be something else. Looks a bit like a juvenile western rock blackfish, especially with the blue eye.

 Yeah that second last one

Yeah that second last one looks like what we call a Black Johnson. Not sure what their proper name is though. They vary in colour from that grey to a darker black. Plenty down south around Walpole way from the beach near reef.
