Favourite reels

Hey fellas

Just looking into new reels and selling some old ones on ebay.  Wondered what everyone favourite reel is, dont matter what sort of fishing, salt or fresh.  My absolute favourite is the penn 500L jigmaster.  An old style reel but never lets me down, easy to maintain, robust and strong and copes really well with haevy leads, big tides and strong fish.  Just wondered what everyones else's best reel is.  Might give me some new ideas on a new one!!

Cheers

Rog

I use it for jigging & bottom bashing.... The only thing I would ever consider to better it is a Blue Heaven...

Abu7000 for bottom fishing.Abu 6500 for flicking a lure about and the perennial favourite---Mitchell 499.They can do all the above if they had to ,but only used for serious beach or big high speed lures and baitcasting a mulie off the rocks

6500B Baitrunner

I love it for trolling, the baitrunner function gives you instant strike without the (time) lapse of bail arm travel. Had it for years teamed with a Wilson Live Fibre.

Hi dream,i too have had a good run with the Live Fibre.

The latest feed back re shimano baitrunners is they are about to get phased out.

So far I haven’t heard if they intend replacing it with a new model.

The 6500 Baitrunner is by far one of the best reels I have used. My Mitchell ORCA 80S Pro is my old time fav but it needs a new bailarm. Am trying to find parts for it now.

Yeah, had my LF for years, love it still.

Would be a great shame if Shimano BRs are phased out I reckon, I've looked after mine, caught tons of fish with it, and still as good as the day I bought it, also years ago.

Soron, I love my Saltist and my Saltiga.
One of the best reels which brings me fondest memories was one I brought at Woolworths (yes Woolworths) many years ago. It was a small sidecast reel that was designed for trout fishing. Man was it a great reel for light bream and drummer fishing from the rocks.

Stella 8000FA, no particular

Wed, 2009-04-29 04:29

Stella 8000FA, no particular reason but I have put it through hell in an open boat and never had it miss a beat. Caught tonnes of Tuna casting metals and use it for Mackies on the troll. Medium jigging down in Perth and have knocked over some good sambos and YTK's.

Baitcaster would be my 203zmillionaire. Balanced on a 6kg LIvefibre. I have flasher low profile reels and dearer rods but this one just works, casts well and well balanced for barra, jacks and most other things that live in creeks except dirty big QLD gropers!!

My certate and Branzino are nice reels but both have been back to Daiwa for new bearings and that is not good enough IMO, given they get less use than the stella.

but i love my Penn 8500SS - great off the beach or on a boat - and the basic 330GTI which i have teamed up with an old ABU ugly stick for heavy winching. My brother has a Mitchell 499 which he has had since he was young bloke and it must be 20-30 years old - uses it for everything.

850/950 Penn is my favourite. I have caught everything with it from Big Macks to Dollies to GT's to Yellowfin and even Marlin.
I must admit after my trip to the Montes with Big John and purchasing a Saratoga with braid I have turned to the Dark Side......
