Drive sensible, drive slow, especially north of Carnarvon and keep your eyes wide open.

best bet

would be find some accomodation at carnarvon overnight and press on the next day.

was up that way a few weeks ago and not so many roos, but heaps of goats and cows - would be ugly !

-good luck with the fishing once you get there though.

If you have to be on the move

Sat, 2013-09-28 07:54

If you have to be on the move and are north of Northampton then pull over and wait till a road train passes then follow in their wake . Stick close too them!

As a rule of thumb never drive at night ½ hour before sunset to ½ hour after sunrise up north if you are planning to motor along any faster then 70 kms/hr. Roo’s are the least of your worries. Hit a cow and you will not walk away from that experience.

If you overnight in Carnarvon I recommend the Wintersun Caravan Park. About 600m west of North West Highway turn off as you head into Carnarvon. For a powered site cost, about $40 for the night (plus a shower!). Pull in sleep on the grass next to your car.

Safe journey and good fishing.

Hay mate, if its your first

Fri, 2013-09-27 17:57

Hay mate, if its your first trip up there and you want some help gettin on a few fish and a heads up about the local weather patterns etc pm me ur number. I just got back from my first family trip up there and was green upon arrival, learnt a few things over the 2 weeks. Night time is the best time to drive, you have the road to yourself, cooler temps, kids sleep, no bloody backpacker vans and road maggots (caravans) to give you the shits sitn on 80. Just need to have enough range to get to the 24hr servos, a jerry or 2 in the tinny will sort that. Good lighting and a handfull of no doze will keep you spottin the road dwellers no worries, plan for more fuel use on the way home headin into the southerlies

Good luck!!!!!

Good luck with that.

Mate is coming down from Exmouth on Sunday, was going to leave early and drive straight through to Bunbury but changed plans as the roos are that thick from Exmouth down to Minilya from dusk through till about 0800 in the morning.

Cattle on the road south of Carnarvon are another huge problem as road trains and cars are coming to blows with them.

Won't be surprised to see a blue car with some damage getting towed in to town in the next day or so. No way I'd be doing it at night without a big roo bar on a 4x4.
