exmouth summer shorebased
Submitted by chesky on Sun, 2010-11-21 22:35
hey all,
I have been and fished exmouth plenty of times, but never in the summer. In terms of shorebased opportunities in the dead heat of summer, what is the general go in what to fish for/where. I usually work the west side down pilgs/sandy bay (sml trevs, queens etc) and also the northern parts like janz/jacobz (spangs) and oysters- in anyones experince, do these places fish differently to the may-july months compared to late dec/jan?
Cheers

baitfish
At the moment theres soooo much baitfish in the gulf its awesome and hard to miss. If you have a 4by, drive the beach between bundegi flats and south to two rocks and you will find queenies and trevs harassing the bait balls. You'll have plenty of fun on the light gear.

High tide
Get on to the town beach behind the golf course and head north towards Bundegi around high tide and watch out for bait balls right in close.

April?
hate to hijack the thread, but does the same apply in April? I'll be there then, but probably not much time to get around to the reef side, and never fished the gulf before.

Yep
Regardless of the tide , take a drive along the beaches north and south of the marina watching for the bait balls/schools near the shore being harrassed by queenies, trevs and mackies.
To the north go as far as the southern boundary of the sanctuary zone and south as far as Two Rocks or to the back of the industrial area.
Any time during the day will do and if you see an early model red cruiser wagon with a roof rack and ali bull bar, give him a yell, and he'll set you right

April
The Fishwrecked comp is on from April 10-13 and there will be a mountain of advice to be had in the weeks coming up to the comp.
Hope you are there at that time to meet and greet a lot of members who come up at that time each year, looking forward to it as have missed the last couple through one thing or another.

cheers mate
will keep an eye on the forum. Bugger - will miss the comp by a week! Coming up for some diving, but planning to throw the rods in too - of course. I've spent a lot of time on the west coast, but never fished the gulf, so it should be fun.
