Exmouth Nightmare Trip!!!!!
We have unfortunately had to return prematurely from our big fishing trip to Exmouth because of a few..Mmm..minor issues
They would be, A F**king a fire blocking our way, A F**king cyclone about to dump it's water on our shit and A F**cking after flood that would probably prevent our return after our trip.
What LUCK hey.....so much for forward planning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 6 months in the planning, all tackle ready to go, excitement building and one hell of a long way to drive for F**KEN nothing and a head full of fishing dreams killed by Mother F**ken nature.......!!(bitch)
Ok, now that I have vented, here's the info I need please. We are targeting pelagics, mostly Mackeral and Tuna as they are (we were told) pretty prevelant this time of year here.
However, we will have to go in June/July now so are they in the area in sufficient numbers this time of year? I have been told that winter is more for bottom bouncing than trolling but at these lats I would have thought there would still be some surface excitement?
Anyone with serious knowledge of this area would be great because I tried to do my homework on this time of year but...yeah...SHIT HAPPENS(see above)!!!
P.S.
Special mention.
Thanks Carnarvon Caravan Park for the extra effort you put into getting us accomodation under such duress
Very special effort to Ray White real estate for understanding the situation and offering us our accom extension for the next year :)

Yeh not looking too good up here at the moment.
Yeh not looking too good up here at the moment. Roads to south have been blocked for nearly a week so far and no telling when they will re-open because of the fire. The roads east are allready closed because of flooding from the rain and we have a cyclone on it's way from the north. Should be ok as long as we don't run out of beer in town.

well it is cyclone season
you really dont have to do that much research to realise that you have an increased risk of mother nature ruining your plans this time of the year plus how many other great fishing locations did you drive past coming back to perth i thats if its perth you came back to i think you gave up to easily buddy

Soft I say
Mate - I think you wussed out too early - oracle and crew saw this weeks forecast for exxy on monday, and by tuesday had loaded the boat and car, drove out through meekatharra and tom price and rang me at 2 yestersday from bundegi jetty, had two marlin strikes and a big bull dolly by 6 and were at the pub when they rang at 7. Had I not had someone in hospital I would have joined them in a heartbeat.
On a more serious answer to your question - other than that you are soft/sensible, mid year is good fun. We always go Jan/Feb but the last three years have been shit with weather so last year I took the family up in june and had a blast - nice afternoon weather each day, fun bottom fishing and great popping for GTs etc. Bit more crowded, but if you can go out of school hols then not bad. Did the whale shark thing, a heap of snorkelling and just had a nice relaxing holiday, as opposed to the boys trips in summer. Due to the above circumstances which caused me to miss my summer trip this year going to do the same provided all goes well with the bub and book 2 weeks in june/july. Drop me a PM if you want more info - I do feel for ya, we got up there last year in Feb and got two days on the water in 11 and left a week early - ruined my entire year.

even if you go during the may june july
you can still encounter mother nature at her best!! we went to the mackerals in may last year and were greated with 20 to 40 knott easterlies for the two weeks we were there!! out of two weeks we had two half days fishing in 20 knott winds! i would be trying to get up there in may june these are my picks of the months!

We had a bloody great trip with plenty of good bottom fishing, Marlin, sails and a couple of bloody baracuda and the odd tuna for good measure. We didn't have much luck with the Mackies though.

Marlin, Sails and a couple of cuda??? I can live with that :)
Shame there aren't any Mackies about that time of year though.
I was talking them up so much to my Cuz about how great they are to catch (he hasn't caught one yet) and now he may not get the chance.
Anyway I've started the buildup for July...whoohoo......
