Exmouth Coral Bleaching
Was out looking for clams this morning for work and noticed that atleast 50% of the coral on the inner reef of the gulf has suffered from coral bleaching and looks the worse for wear. We collected 9 clams and they were all near on dead from it. Rumour also has it that 20% of the west side has also suffered the same fate. I'm yet to get out deeper in the gulf as the water is still green and horrible and too murky to dive, but wondering how long it will take for the media or scientists to pick up on it. (If it is as bad as I think it is) Guess theres always a down fall somewhere to having super heated water. :( For those of you guys diving and spearing up here, it would be great to hear feed back about areas you find where it has taken place.

bleaching
corals do have the ability to recover from a bleaching event if the stress doesn't last too long (that is warm temps in this case)

In the paper last week
There was an article on it last week that I read on the west news website.
They were asking that if any tourists or rec fishers discover bleached coral in exmouth / ningaloo reef, they take photos if possible and notify DEC of the location.
cheers

Bugger
Bugger, they beat me to it (good to hear they're onto it). The missus checked out the Turquoise reports today and theres a few bits and pieces but its generally ok. Certainly doesn't appear that way in the gulf and apparently Bundegi is a mess. Here's hoping it can recover.

To be honest Ad's you guys
To be honest Ad's you guys have had it too good for too long. Big marlin everywhere, mackies off the richter for eveywhere south of there. It's a small price to pay. Plenty more coral in the sea
If the lord did not mean for us to eat fish and game, he wouldn't have made them outta meat
