Exmouth boating

Hi guys. Heading up to Exmouth on thurs. first time with the boat. Have a 5.4m ally cuddly. Was after some rough ideas on what conditions to look for? I.e easterly better on west side, or w in gulf? Also any indications on what limits ppl would consider, ie less than 14knot se and less than 2m swell? I’m not familiar with the area so sometimes can be a struggle to picture what s forecast on paper will mean on the water!

any help greatly appreciated!

cheers, goat.

The crossing between the cape

Mon, 2018-05-07 15:53

The crossing between the cape and the islands can be a bitch if the wind and tide are against each other.

10-15kts of wind sounds like it should be OK but if the tides runs the other way it can get sloppy.

Same applies in the gulf to a certain extent.

Other than that, its pretty much the same as Perth.

 Bundegi boat ramp a pain

Mon, 2018-05-07 16:52

Bundegi boat ramp a pain when it's too windy and can only launch/retrieve one at a time. Marina boat ramp is good if heading south into the gulf but adds about 7nm to Murions compared to Bundegi. Tantabiddi is a bit of a drive but the combination of the boat ramp and how close deep water is, makes it the best choice imo.

I am up on Sunday for a week, boat is ubique,  northbank 6.0m cuddy cab, fishing mainly out of Tantas, staying in town, weather at this stage is looking good and so is the almanac.  Come and say hi hopefully at the filleting table, will also end up trolling for some squid in the gulf if conditions are right.

If you have any need to purchase some odds and sods tackle wise, go and see STEVE at the Exmouth tackle and camping shop (right near Iga)

he was really helpful with knowledge of what to target and where ect. Make sure you spend a few $ there to help support the local economy so info such as what he gave us will continue to be forthcoming.

Just got back from up there

Tue, 2018-05-08 17:48

Just got back from up there on our yearly trip. Windyty.com seemed to be the most accurate site for the forcast and can see whats going on with the animated view.

It can be blowing in town and be a glass off on the west side. So dont be put off by that. Anything with east in it and will generally be great out that side. In saying that in the arvos it can be blowing on the west side and be a glass off in the gulf.

Hope that helps in some way.
