Eupro cyclone

Hi everyone. I have recently purchased the eupro cyclone surf fishing rod. It will be mainly for salmon and tailor fishing. I have looked at the weight rating and it says 17-40lbs. I just want to make sure that this is the right rod for the job because I always thought that that be a bit heavy for tailor and salmon. I havn't ripped the tag off yet but am hoping to on the weekend so any quick info would be great!

Suppose it all comes down to how much weight you will be casting and the cast weight rating of the rod. Pretty heavy rated rod, would handle catching most big stuff Id say

Yeah as Tim-o said, maybe a bit heavy for Slamon and Taylor but good for bigger species.

they are a pretty reasonable rod for that purpose, you can fish for these species with lighter rods but the cyclone isnt considered overkill.  If your casting heavy poppers its ideal

I used to have one but sold it to a mate, for tailor popping I have 2 different rods I use depending on conditions and types of poppers.

For a big richter plug (3oz) or similar weight lure I use a 10foot sensor surf, for the light cotton cordells etc I like my sea jigger.

I just remembered too that I used that eupro spinning for Mackeral at steep point too, it will chuck the 30z lures a mile, good price in most shops too

Yeah I will be using mostly 2-3oz richter plugs. Any lure really up to 100g. If I catch a tailor, would it be a good fight?i have matched it up with a stradic 5000fj and 25lb mono

I got the 9th matched to a abu soron st60 with 20lb.  Chucks a 65gm raider a mile.  Big tailor are still a great fight,  love this rod.

Maybe a good idea going slightly heavier considering what happened to Kingfisha ;) I reckon it's  a good all round rod for the beach, especially if you hook into a ray or shark you want something that can handle a bit of grunt. Running 25lb mono should be ideal for all of the above. I run 20 lb on a 20k stella with Daiwa Sensor surf, I use this for Tailor etc. I have a smaller Sniderglass  that I use for Herring Skippy, it's an awesome rod and bash the bait out a good distance, paired up with a Stella 5k with 12lb mono.
