Hi Ledge, pretty sure that it's just as cost effective to buy a new one now. You also need to dispose of the old one correctly so as to avoid accidental activation. Department of Transport in Freo at Capo Dorlando take both Epirb and flares or Battery World take it for a small fee.
.and if your not near one, BCF will price match it..
be careful though, as the MT406 and MT406G, are way different - the 406G has a 50m gps position and the plain 406 is like 5km position I think.. BCF dont clarify this, and Whitworths sell the 406G for the price BCF sell the plain 406, so eyes wide open mate..
BCF price matched the 406G for me to Whitworths special price of $239 at the time, after a quick phone call to verify..
Standard 406 send a signal that is picked up with each satellite pass. Can take 3 passes to get a triangulated position and satellites can be 40mins apart.
406g sends an accurate gps coord in the first pass.

Cost
Cost wise you're better off getting a new epirb Ledge. I got one last year with a 10 year battery life.
