The battery on my EPIRB has expired & ive heard that its cheaper to buy a new unit than replace the battery. Has any one shopped around lately for a good price ?

Are there any recommendations for a specific brand of EPIRB or are all of the GPS based units of similar quality ?
I just bought one as i dont have time for any research. Old one has expired.
Safety Alert GPS EPIRB $299 - 10 year battery. Claims to be acurate within 3 Mtrs. Hopefully ill never get to test it.
