Submitted by Helen on Tue, 2018-11-27 22:55
Hey Peeps. Heading to Dwellingup again on Friday for the weekend but really chasing some tips on the area and what you have been most successful catching and what you used. I had very little luck last time i went so really want to make the most of it. Thanks everyone.

I'd be taking a kayak to get
I'd be taking a kayak to get to all the overgrowth and snags for the redfin. In the past i've used crawdad type diving lures with a bit of red in them , and minnow lures in the trout colour . Never used soft plastics but i'm sure they would work well.

I second the lures with a bit
I second the lures with a bit of red. Been years since I’ve had a crack at Redfin but they were always a standout lure choice. We used to go right in deep well past nanga almost the back of boddington. I believe all the logging roads are closed through that way these days though.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Very early morning or late
Very early morning or late arvo and use small soft plastics (some you would for bream) or spinners. You'll need to cover a lot of ground to be successful so unless you enjoy bashing through thick bush a kayak is the way to go

Snakes
And please be aware that there is every chance of seeing or getting bit by a snake. Be safe and use good heavy boots and wear gaiters.

All day
Soft plastics. Paddle tail. Dark green grub. Stay in big pools. Not skinny bits of river.

If all else
If all else fails, don't forget to try live baits like minnows ( Mosquitofish ) You can catch the around the rock pools
with a small hand net with fine mesh . They can be lured into a spot with a bit of bread then scoop them up.
The guy in this video fishes them under a float, but you can use a runing rig with a small sinker simular to a bream rig.

Yup live bait under a float
Killer method and the float allows you to cover more area ......bubble float that you can part fill with water will increase casting distance

spinners
Spinners used to work best for me (many yearas ago) By far the pick of them was the Mepps Black Fury in orange/red. Good luck and as groverwa said, watch out for snakes, they're pretty friendly down there in summer.

I've been using the cheap
I've been using the cheap spinners Kmart sells down there recently with reasonable success. Just keep moving and casting

Got 5 reddies over near Scarp Pool just flicking spinners around yesterday. Walking the banks was hard work but well worth the effort
